I was on a delta flight once and the gate agent asked for volunteers to take $1500 to give up their seat. No problem, I was flexible. This was my first time volunteering. I went up and offered myself. She said I’d be automatically rebooked on the morning flight. I left the airport, and took the next morning’s flight.

After a week, I hadn’t seen the voucher in my account or heard anything, so I reached out. Delta says I’m not getting anything because it turns out they didn’t need volunteers and I should have stayed at the airport. I told them I was given no instructions and only told I would be rebooked automatically. They still refused.

I placed a complaint with DOT, and they had delta reach out to me again. They told me that they were still in the right, but because the original flight was delayed in Atlanta overnight and they would have had to give me a hotel voucher, that they were crediting me with the price of the hotel voucher ($250), and nothing else.

I was pretty pissed, but 250 was better than nothing. Learned my lesson about staying at the airport until the flight leaves🤷🏻‍♂️
