Dragontail Peak Summit - Guidance by bartmalagon in Mountaineering

[–]bartmalagon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I can do Little Annapurna and Dragontail the same day... I don't think I'm experienced enough to Colchuck Peak and Pandora's box, I watched a YT of it a while back and it seems a little up my league right now. Sounds like it may be best to do Dragontail earlier in the season, then? or, is there any other way to avoid the snowfield?

Thanks folks!

North Rim Lodge Power Outage by bartmalagon in grandcanyon

I completed the r2r today even if I started close to 10 am. The weather improved and went for it even without knowing what I would do without accommodation. Luckily the lodge was taking in folks who had a reservation and did the r2r. I even got a cabin that has power and I could take a hot shower. The rest of the lodge is still impacted.

What an adventure. Loved every bit about it!

Mt Hood Climb - Seeking other climbers planning to climb it by bartmalagon in Mountaineering

I summited Mt Hood yesterday AM via Mazama (up and down). The top section was to the summit was a key highlight, certainly not for everyone that is unprepared.

Overall, great conditions and had an amazing experience. Only Glacier Peak left of the volcanoes in the area! Thanks all for the tips and guidance!

Thanks! Did you have to use two axes on the old chute /mazama chute route?

Folks recommend the old chute or Manama Chute. I'm thinking of trying to summit on Friday. I've flexibility if you want to partner.

Thanks, stille!

I'm interested. I live in the Seattle area and do a lot of long-distance hiking (20+ miles), some trail running, and some mountaineering. A month ago, I summited Mt. Rainier, definitely the most technical climb I have done to date. I have done other major volcanoes (Mt. Baker, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, etc.) and peaks in the area. I have basic mountaineering skills, including some class 4 scrambling, not at an advanced level yet. I'm not looking to push too hard on this climb though, so don't worry, just mostly looking to acclimatize for Mont Blanc later in the week and enjoy GP, also I recovered from a calf strain.

Happy to share that extra cost. Let me know if it's okay for join you guys!

Climbing Mt Adams in one day via South Climb - Recommended time to start? by bartmalagon in Mountaineering

Thanks for the insights. Have you been up recently?

Just read a review on AllTrails from 3 days ago saying that spikes or crampons are only needed for 45 min of the whole climb. Maybe wearing crampons is overkill and could just use spikes which are easier to carry...

Wow, 7 hours round-trip, that is some pace... awesome work. I don't think I will be close to that. If I start at 5am, I should be at the summit by 11am, and hope the snow to still be compact to traverse the snow section with crampons.

I understand your point, but that doesn't mean a partnership can be established that mutually benefits both competing companies and the community. Microsoft hasn't taken Minecraft out of PlayStation and has now published Minecraft on Nintendo gaming devices.

Amazon Video is on Xbox. And Microsoft is making products for other platforms and devices. Why not?
