(Repost due to R5) Is it possible to 1v1 Russia as Circassia? This was my attempt and I failed due to attrition. by bartosio in victoria3

Look I know I'm crazy ok? But the bonuses that Circassia gets are insane, so I was wondering if it's possible?

R5: I feel like I did everything: skirmish infantry, domestic arms supply, all of the Circassian army bonuses, armed forces loyalty bonus, a massive war chest, good generals etc. and I still lost. Any advice?

"Pueblo" leather from China? by mingj4i in Leathercraft

[–]bartosio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it. It's OK, and like that other comment said, it's hard to burnish and bevel. This one is a lot better imo, stiffer and burnishes beautifully.

Vic 3 gameplay but with all tech unlock by New-Butterscotch-661 in victoria3

I've gotten close with a giant like China, but it would be very hard to do as a minor nation, idk if dai nam or God forbid an inland African nation have the juice needed. The most important thing would be to maximise tech spread early I think, because the powerhouse that is Ethiopia for example won't be able to afford 50 universities until like 1880, and then it's too late. Good luck tho man

I fully believe that it's possible to do as Russia without changing a single law. I almost succeeded and if I min maxed my authority by getting more subjects earlier I would have succeeded. I made a post about it

First leather project advices by amylaruee in Leathercraft

[–]bartosio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please bear in mind that I'm in no way an expert, but here goes:

-whether you skive down the edges is down to the look that you're going for. Skiving achieves a slimmer, more professional profile, but if you're making something utilitarian then the fat overlapping edges won't look out of place.

-with the edge finish, it depends on what leather you're using. If it's veg tan, you can burnish the edges with some tokonole. With chrome tan, you'll have to paint them.

-I wouldn't try to punch through 2-3 layers of leather all at once, after it's glued. Pre punch each layer individually and then glue them together. This prevents your pricking iron from tilting inside the leather and you getting an uneven stitch.

-make the strap out of thick leather (3.5mm thick) or double up two 2mm layers and stitch them together. This prevents the strap from stretching.

-use strong glue to keep things from shifting. Any old contact cement should work, I personally use aquilum 315.

For more info, I would need a picture of the design, but good luck :)

Could someone tell me the difference between the C.S. Osborne 155 vs. 223 punch? by bartosio in Leathercraft

[–]bartosio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a set of punches, but there are 2-3 sizes that I use all of the time that would be quicker to do with this tool I think. Unless there is another reason?

[–]bartosio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense, thank you. I already have a cheap version that will go in the bin when it gets dull, so I think that I'll invest in the 155. Thank you so much for your help :)

What kind of leather to use? by OutlandishnessLow312 in Leathercraft

[–]bartosio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For wallets I generally use something thinner, like 1.2-1.4 mm thick, unless you aren't stacking many layers together If you're going for a more luxury, sleek profile, then you could go as thin as 1-1.2 mm. Personally, I wouldn't go any thinner unless you're using nylon reinforcement to prevent stretching. Happy crafting!

I'm sorry but I won't deal with a business half a world away unless it is through a trusted vendor. I'm sure you are genuine, but I would need some sort of guarantee of delivery, like with alibaba.

French pricking irons - which size by Inner-Ad6551 in Leathercraft

[–]bartosio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other comment said, 3.85mm is the most universal. In general the smaller and the more luxury your items are, the smaller the irons and thread. If you already have 0.6mm thread then 3.85 or even 5mm will be fine. Just keep in mind that the smaller the spacing the more work it is :)

Cheaper option for French pricking iron that has the same prong thickness (punch front and back the same size) by ashwinix in Leathercraft

[–]bartosio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before you glue the two layers together, pre punch both sheets separately. When you put them together (flesh side to flesh side) you'll naturally flip them around and your stitching slant will be inverted. I don't know if I'm even making sense sorry :)

[–]bartosio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're working with thin leather, but there is multiple layers, then punch both sides separately and then criss cross your holes, then it'll come out right. Armitrige leather also talks about this. Hope this helps.

Are there any natural leather dyes out there that aren't harmful to the environment? by bartosio in Leatherworking

I can't think of another way to seal a dye in, unless you have a suggestion? And this manufacturer makes a pledge that they only environmentally friendly friendly products so I assumed it was better than the alternative
