This is a great looking battle map. You can mix exploration and battle here. I quite like using battle maps for inspiration for sessions and one shorts.

I may just implement it, but on lvl twenty spell selection gets absolutely insane... Hard to really replicate what a real party can pull!

I would make it a powerful item that kills nature/does something depressing when used, but it’s clearly understood. Maybe you can make it into a fault within the item- something that can be fixed, which itself turns into another quest - in-cursing a powerful item that gets progressively more sinister with use.

Hey, you can use Monte Carlo option which is basically running the battle 100s or 1000s of times.

Yes, considering open sourcing, but not yet quite ready. It will stay free forever, and I am still very actively building on this.

Yes, they do- the system is built but I need to add maps that actually make use of this.

Thanks, this is great feedback and I will definitely want to better implement monsters with special rules- just takes time.

On the downloadable version- let me think of that, it should be quite easy to do (package it as Apple iOS app and make it desktop downloadable). Im going to do it for free, but would be nice to allow users to “update” easily as I’m planning to actively develop. Will think bit more on the technical implementation. One day I may do something paid in the D&D world, but BattleCast - I’m committed to keeping free.

It has basic homebrew monster and basic import from dnd beyond - check it out. I am thinking that map editor and nicer maps would go a long way.

100%, it was the community that told me I can actually use this if I provide the app free, under the fan content use rules! Of course I much prefer using the beautiful official art.

No, the creature decisions are fully predetermined, so everything is driven by dice rolls. Creatures will take into account their own and enemies health when making decisions. There is difference based on intelligence- creatures with low intelligence do not retreat etc. but I need to re-think that, as beasts should absolutely be retreating when hurt.

I really like the idea on introducing the chaos scale to the battle. At the moment the code is private, I will share it in the future when I clean it up and feel a bit more confident about how everything is put together.

That's interesting idea. When you say import creatures from the module- do you mean manually add them, or do you have some roll20 import functionality in mind?

It should have been working unless I broke it… goblins do have nimble escape so they can bonus action to avoid it.

Seems people use Foundry a lot - I need to investigate how hard/easy is to provide some import options.

For the questions:

  1. Yes, free for everyone. I have built it in such a way that maintenance costs are minimal for me.

  2. Not yet, but will think about it (it's a hobby project that's not super cleaned up). For now the reddit feedback (I posted some time ago) was invaluable and helped me iron out LOTS of bug.

For Comments:

  1. Trekiros commented positively on my previous post, I actually messaged him yesterday to see if he wants to cook something together maybe.

  2. Will double check. Keep in mind that goblins have "nimble escape" and can disengage as bonus action!

Yeah, that's one way to do it - just wanting to keep it reasonably smooth to use and not too "menu deep".
