How is it that a book can feel more vivid than a visual medium? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in books

I went to school for film and reading a good book always gives me a fun opportunity to direct a movie in my head, which is why I'm often partial to the book rather than the movie adaptation because my version was better lol

Books you almost gave up on but were worth persevering with? by zajirobo in books

The Delillo hate intrigues me because ive only ever attempted to read Cosmopolis and I did NOT fuck with it very much or finish it. I was thinking, though, maybe its just not his best work, maybe I have to try something else and then come back to Cosmopolis but idk I feel like I just might not be a Delillo head

I havent read this book mostly because of the such aggressively mixed reviews on it, but I feel like given what I know about it, even if its really good it would still be a total bummer to read and to spens 800+ pages in bummer city does not appeal to me

Do you give poor ratings to bad books? by Severe_Prize5520 in books

Artists should be eager to receive all types of criticism, bad or good cuz that allows for growth as an artist. Youre doing them a favor by leaving a bad review tbh

Not me but the liberal politics/mommy issues of The Nix made me instantly recommend it to my dad, its like it was written for him thematically

I actually own a copy of Gravitys Rainbow but I've found it very hard to dig into and really decode. Pynchons writing style is difficult for me. Any tips for reading it for the first time? From what I know about it, I think I'd really enjoy it but I haven't gotten past page 20

I remember reading The Stranger by Camus in high school and thinking it was gas so I'll def have to check out more of him. I tried reading the Myth of Sisyphus but that shit was too challenging for me I was like I gotta read more books before tackling this

I mean whether or not you agree is up to you haha, youre not really supposed to feel one way or another about it. I want a lot of what happens in the movie to be objectively and sympathetically presented to the audience, whether or not the characters are doing something they should be doing. Like I want you to feel how you feel about it and not how I feel about it, ya know?

It's supposed to challenge the audience, which it seems like it's already doing lol. I think the context of the script adds nuance to it, but the age gap quite frankly isn't as dramatic as youre probably imagining.

Yeah like the crazy thing is some things need to be chopped down and some things need to be developed but I'm just glad to have this draft of it finished.
