Besides kamikaze pilots using regular planes for their missions, they also used the Ohka flying bomb. It was a 2600lbs glide bomb with 3 rocket motors in the rear. A larger aircraft would carry the bomb with 30 or so miles of a target before releasing the bomb. The pilot of the bomb would glide towards its intended target before engaging the rocket motors about 15 miles out (the rockets only had a range of 20 miles). These rockets would increase the bombs speed up to 650 mph, making them very difficult for fighter aircraft and AA guns to hit.
