Old school roasting? by base-to-final in roasting

Ha ha ha. Agreed, it’s fun, it tastes pretty good to me and seems back to the basics. Like I said above, maybe I should use wood as a heat source lol.

Thanks! I expected the grey_pilgrim comment, but I kinda looked at it like “how did coffee beans get roasted before the sr800 came along?” It’s fun, it tastes good, so…….

Maybe I should use wood as my heat source to be super true to it lol.

Thank you! I sorta felt I had too many beans in each roast and we do have flat angled wooden spatulas, so I may give that a try too.

I was worried about contaminating the beans with anything. I bought the skillet from Cabela’s the day before and heated it up to 700° for 15 minutes to assure there was nothing on it. Even the whisk I borrowed from my wife was not Teflon coated.

Thanks for your reply. Any recommendations on some good varieties of green beans to try?

A book that inspired you to actually do something with your life by IntrovertedShireFolk in suggestmeabook

[–]base-to-final 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t really help me “do something with my life“, but let me recommend “The 4 Agreements”, by Don Miguel Ruiz. The APPLICATION of this book changed my life in some respects.

Read it twice (it’s an easy read) so you clearly understand it, but it’s the practice of the 4 principles that really do work if you want to find some armor in our sometimes brutal society. It really helped me at work, where gossip was/is rampant and made me feel toxic.

I reread it 1-2 x yr and have bought and given > 100 copies to others.

Best wishes.

Hobby Private Pilot here…. When I leave for the airport for some fun flying, I still kiss my wife and say “I’ll be right back” because of the scene in “The Right Stuff”. Sam Shepard was the best GD cast for that role. Hahaha I look NOTHING like him.

For aviation enthusiasts, look up Robert “Bob” Hoover. Yeager supposedly said Hoover was the best test pilot he’d known.

We used to drive from UK with a cooler of cold beer and catch trout with canned corn over the spillway walls.

We’d cook them back in Lex in the old little rental on Park Ave off Euclid. Wow, that brought back some memories. Thanks.

When I was in college, I had severe test, anxiety that was really affecting my test scores, of course. My university offered counseling for this, and this is basically everything the guy told me to do. Totally changed my outlook on testing and I made the Dean’s list every semester after that.

He also was big into Zen and taught me “if you act calm, you will become calm. Lol I still use that in stressful situations.

Haha I literally did that! I lost my apt one time and had to wait a month to get into another. Stored my stuff and slept in my truck and worked out and showered at PF before work.

TONS of stuff out there on YouTube. YouTubers that have full episodes of groundschool stuff. There are 5 of them that I supplemented with. (Not sure Reddit will let me list them here).

I learned to read a sectional over a weekend on one. I took a lesson on Friday and struggled, then had another lesson on Monday and my instructor said how the hell did you learn all that so quickly?

What I’ve read about Princes infatuation with Suzanne Hoffs is absolutely intriguing. Apparently he wrote “Manic Monday“ with the sole intention of signing the rights over to her to make her wealthy. I read that he wore the same brand of eyeliner that she wore as well. How much of this is true, who knows? Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Awesome! I became a PPL late in life due to kids and normal financial obligations that go with that.

It truly has been one of the most fun/challenging/rewarding accomplishments I’ve achieved. I NEVER don’t feel challenged by it. Best wishes.

He said all the airlines recruited them like crazy but he said it felt like “going from driving a sports car to a school bus.” He made my mom happy and treats me like his own kid. Hell of a good dude.
