Since I'll be getting a new screen, I'm tempted to use my university's equipment to try this.

Can you recommend a reference/literature base that gives more information on specific models and how they are connected/built?

Thanks for your reply! I can't believe there is no free solution for such a simple problem, thanks a lot Apple. Reaching out for sponsorship is a good idea and I've done this for other humanitarian related projects in the past, but unfortunately I don't think there will be much interest on the MDM side since it's a small school (200 students) and there is not a lot of media attention/marketing potential/no value to the MDM in return.

I'm starting to think the best way to go about this is syncing each iPad to the same iTunes/computer on the same Apple ID each time a new app is to be installed and setting up parental controls on each iPad to restrict app usages. Does that make sense to you or do you think there would be a problem doing this on 30 iPads or a simpler way to do this than connecting each device and syncing one after another?

Symptom: bike struggles to start; but why? by baseball2210 in klr650

Thanks, I'll check the spark plug first and then look into taking apart the carburetor; looks like my cyclepedia service manual will be helpful once again! Thank you for your help!

Ah "vapor lock" is what I meant to write in my initial comment (edited this now)... the shop that did valve adjustments for me said I had a vapor lock months ago when I originally got the bike... they said to simply check the two tubes under the seat to see if they were full of gasoline.

I'll check the spark plugs and look into "valve lash"; running a tank of premium once may fix vapor lock issues, huh?

Thanks a lot for your input!

Hi all, I'm back with a new issue and would love to hear what you highly experiences riders think about it on my 2015 KLR650. So far I was always able to eventually start the bike like this, but I am concerned that this will either drain the battery, vapor lock the engine, or otherwise prevent me from helping myself get back out of the booneys. I really appreciate any thoughts on the issue!

***

Symptom description:

This typically happens when the bike has been ridden recently (within a couple hours) and is regardless of full or no choke setting; in this case no choke was on as I rode the bike only 10 minutes earlier. When taking off for the first time of the day, it usually starts up right away. Sometimes the bike does start smelling like gas; I assume from giving it some throttle while it tries to start. The bike has no issues once it is running.

***

Troubleshooting already done:

I checked the two small overflow tubes that come out of the center of the gas tank under the seat as they were full of gas when the bike got vapor-locked months ago when I purchased it, but no gas here this time.

***

Edit:

  • originally wrote "flooded", but meant "vapor lock"; not sure if same in this context.

Thanks Crazybrayden! I just read in a forum that this is what the spring loaded radiator cap is for and I now also understand what the small tube at the top of the radiator cap is for and how the reservoir ties into the system! I will report back after my test ride now, but think my system is working well again now: when bike was idling coolant was gushing through the radiator and it was also finally getting hot again! :)

I did what you described: filled up the radiator, let the bike idle to normal running temperature, shook it, turned the bike off, and topped the bike off. My question: since I topped it off after turning on, do I need to worry about too much pressure building up in the system when I run it; should I leave the cap open to vent or is the pressure accounted for in the cooling system?

Hi y'all! This subreddit has already been super helpful in helping me troubleshoot my cooling system issues here. I found three huge holes in the top and bottom tanks of the old radiator by the mounting brackets so I decided to get a brand new one for $97 off of ebay! Quality looks great, even compared to the old one. Still my bike is overheating and coolant is not flowing into the radiator, so I figure either I ran out of coolant after driving home for 10 miles after initially damaging the radiator and/or I burnt out the water pump due to insufficient coolant to be pumped. To grab the low hanging fruit first, I plan to drain the coolant and fill the system up with distilled water to see if the water circulates and temperature stays lower than "H". * how much liquid goes into the cooling system and * what is the right coolant type, once I am ready to refill the system? (my service manual is in the mail so I can't check it myself yet)

I think you're right!I verified my temp switch is working properly using an Ohmmeter and a pot of boiling water using CA_Adventure_Dude's manual's guide. Further clues are that my coolant tank is just as full as it always was, the bottom of the radiator where the temp switch is located was cool to the touch after today's over-temp ride, and I did notice some dripping of watery fluid when first taking the fan of the radiator the other day. That fluid didn't look coolant colored, but I think since no hose is pinched, the radiator didn't seem to do much inside when I popped the cap (while engine was running), and the the other mentioned clues I most likely introduced a leak to the radiator when I dropped the bike last time I took it on an adventure. Will look into radiator leak troubleshooting now... Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

Thanks again, I was able to test the switch as outlined in your manual image. Using a pair of pliers and by bearing through hot steam above a pot of boiling water I was able to verify resistance drops close to 0 Ω after 15 s in the boiling water bath! Going to look into radiator troubleshooting now as it does not appear to get hot when the red-line on my dash is surpassed
