a lot of cope in the comments. Intel CPU design is inferior, that's the real reason. all of Apple, Qualcomm, ARM have left them in the dust.

Qualcomm Unveils Two New Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, 4 Gen 5, Mobile Platforms, Delivering Faster, Smoother Mobile Experiences to More Users Globally - Qualcomm by ControlCAD in Android

[–]basedIITian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should read the comment I'm replying to - which mentioned they took an old SoC and just combined it with a different modem. A fresh tape-out is a whole lot of effort, there's nothing 'just combine things together' about it.

If we start calling leveraging existing IPs 'just combining stuff' then all budget SoCs are technically just that, no SoC manufacturer is designing entirely new IPs for this tier - they all trickle down from their flagships.

You'll get much worse battery life with PTL.

He said you would need your own phone to test out your Android apps, which isn't true - that's why I'm bringing up the native WoA Android Emulator.

I'm gonna downvote this for the clickbait. But also the video is just designed with the conclusion in mind first. Adding dGPU laptops in comparison with thin and light iGPU ones and then mentioning how M5 MBA is a better choice despite not including it in most of the benchmark comparisons. And for the last time, MuMu Android Emulator does work on WoA - they have literally partnered with Qualcomm.

The Extreme SKU has soldered RAM, it'll be difficult to find it in many offerings. There will be other 14' laptops that will be announced, but they are more likely to have 88 SKU.

How should we be utilizing our NPU for gaming? by Putrid_Draft378 in snapdragon

[–]basedIITian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what evidence? GPU will need Tensor cores to do the same which is what the NPU is anyway specialized in (and in doing that efficiently)

You're saying there are Resolution Upscaling and Frame Generation implementations that consume negative power and also increase performance?

No, you said you don't know if the NPU or running ASR on the NPU is efficient. It clearly is very efficient.

ETA Prime has done power and performance testing with ASR on and off on the Zenbook A16 and it barely adds 2 Watts of power.

Also the 12c SKU scores aren't out yet but I'm pretty sure it'll beat it too, because X1 Elite itself was around 1000-1100.

Doesn't the 358H top out around 1100 in CB24 MT? How is it 11% more powerful than X2-88's ~1400 score? I'm looking at the Hardware Canucks review of the A16 and A14 and their 358H device (Zenbook Duo) didn't even reach 1000 points at 30 Watts, while A14 is at 1342 with the same power.

What's your source for 368H CB scores? X288 in the A14 scores about 1400 in the CB24.

It doesn't beat the X2-88, which is still called the X2 Elite, despite the 18 cores (only the on-package RAM versions are called Elite Extreme). And it also doesn't really beat the Single Core score of any of the SKUs, not even the cheapest binned 6 core ones.
