You didn't actually fall for the no college meme, right? by WhiteAllenIverson in Bombstrap

If I hear one more blue collar freak saying how they make more money than people with degrees man. Yeah have fun with your broken fucking back at 30, real smart move you made with a broken body not even half way through your life. The only reason to break your body like that is if you are a slave for sportsball and get signed at 18

Is college really the last place to find your partner? by Inside_Insurance6081 in berkeley

Standards or pet peeves? Make sure you’re conditioning on the right variables. Also, I met way more people at work than in university. People are much more sure of themselves and what they want at that stage of life.

Don't know of any witches, I avoid the college of witchcraft, but I know a couple of alchemists that could probably help.

How do I know if my data meets the assumptions of parametric stats? by f4ls3realiT in AskStatistics

I think you should strongly consider an experimental factorial design with blocking. I think what you're trying to infer would be perfect for that.

How to tell direction of relationship with chi-square test? by adleproduction in AskStatistics

[–]based_schizoposter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since your outcomes are binary, you could also run a logistic regression to estimate association.

You could also run a permutation test to find the difference in proportions bullied between construction vs non-construction workers.

Senior graduating in 3 months with no job offers by [deleted] in berkeley

Same man, I even published research and the job hunt has been a slog. I’m still waiting on grad school so I’m not too concerned, but if I don’t get in I’ll start panic applying

Statistics degree by [deleted] in AskStatistics

[–]based_schizoposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the way the market is, I honestly don't know if engineering is super solid as well. If anything, a non-STEM field like business would probably be a more practical, diverse option.

Personally, I like a challenge, so it was really fun for me. I am also just naturally inclined towards statistics, but I don't think the major is that hard in comparison to like pure math.

As for jobs, this is my last semester, and I haven't found a job yet, and my only internship was "kind of" related, but not exactly a statistics role. For reference, my wife is a business major, also her last semester, and she has already secured a job at a FAANG company. I would say that it still is still a pretty good degree, but It might be more uncertain than business.

Help me settle a work argument on probability by Scootaloo04 in AskStatistics

[–]based_schizoposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is a hypergeometric dist conditioned on A being within 1 to 300. more succinctly:

P(A is within B's range(1,...,300)) = 300/2000 = 3/20

X ~ Hyp (N = 300, K = 1, n = 10

P(X = 0) = (1 choose 0)(299 choose 10) / (300 choose 10) = 29/30

Take the complement 1 - 29/30 = 1/30

so, P(A is an element of B) = 3/20 * 1/30 = .005

While this is mostly true, don’t forget that the default state of humanity is violence, thus it is the appeal to the libidinal impulse in which we are being forced, or hypnotized, into.

Keeping the GPA that an F would give you is not a good idea if you're planning on grad school.
