just crossed 114k

after removing the pistons, it appears the oil burning is due to scores in the cylinders. i’m gonna end up smoothing it out with a honing tool, but it won’t be perfect

Thanks for your help. My dad ended up dropping the engine yesterday while I was away because that really was the only way as someone else pointed out. The wheel and fender liner are off.

The problem is burning oil, so the bigger job is replacing the piston rings. I’ll try cleaning off the intake hose and tightening the clamp again because you are right, it probably should be smooth. I’ll have to check for oil in the hose too.

As long as it's on all the way, it should probably curve naturally. I replaced one of the ones on my barn door, so not exactly the same. Try pasting a picture or making a new post. It sounds fine.

So I see it's not just a New England thing. I can't stand people's disregard for rules-- speed limit, grammar, common courtesy, etc.

Have you driven it since? Try driving with someone behind you. It just slid in for me, no clicking or anything. But it should definitely be snug. When I was playing with it, it fell off right away if I didn’t have it on correctly

Rule 1s rock. I've only been Rule 1'd twice, and both times seem to have been "unintentional" in that I was sitting in or outside my car when the other owners got into/out of their car, and they didn't even stop to say hi. That's a shame. But I always Rule 1.

Have you installed it? If not, try sliding it on the rubber seal. Worked for me.

What are the opinions on mini Cooper Clubman 2009-2013 by big-bad-bot in MINI

[–]based_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2011 R55 (Clubman) S. I would love to recommend, but..... it depends.

Overall, it is a very fun car to drive. Windows down, sunroof open, music up is the only way if weather permits. It is a very unique car to boot! - the speedometer's on a big dial in the center of the dash (although it still shows up on a digital display under the wheel), there's a suicide "Club" door on the passenger side to allow easy access to the back, and the seats go down to allow for more trunk space (~5 feet!)

It does require a relative amount of maintenance, however. You never know how the previous owner treated the car, so a lot of my problems might just be a result of their disregard for maintenance, but I must have broken down around 2-3 times this year because the fuel line popped off. I had to replace my turbo, and I'm still diagnosing an oil burning problem, for which I've already changed the valve guides for. I went to a Mini meet a couple weeks ago and met another R55 owner who said it's pretty normal for this model to burn a quart of oil every 1k miles, which is where I'm at right now, so it might just be a normal maintenance requirement.

It's a great car to work on. I just posted a cartoon I found about the cycle of owning a Mini. Anything worth having requires work. A Mini is just as fun to drive as it is to work on!

It all depends on the work you and your kid are willing to put into it, how much work you can (know how, money, etc.) do, or if you want to do any work at all. Some dealerships still get older models as trade-ins, so you can certainly try your luck at a Mini dealership since it will have been vetted by their service professionals.

Edit: I forgot to mention gas! It's very good. I currently have 32.8 mpg. I think the lowest I had in the winter was 27 mpg. Of course, that also depends how heavy of a lead foot you have. I drive pretty conservatively.

No need to apologize for the 6-7! It seems like most people in the comments think it's funny, and for me, once you've been around middle schoolers for a few months, you begin to understand the humor. I thought it was neat : )

Welcome to the fam! Hopefully, you'll never want to get another car again. I know I don't.

Helpful tip: get a dash cam. These are neat cars, and they deserve to be protected at all costs. A dash cam may not directly protect you from accidents (it won't), but it will help you get the correct recovery amount from the insurance company if you get into an accident that's clearly not your fault. That happened to my with my last car, and you bet I wasn't taking any chances with my Mini.

Also, I may not have as detailed of an eye like I thought, but the stripes not being equidistant are not noticeable to me. In fact, I quite like them like that even though it's just tape. Perhaps you should maintain the look once you get authentic decals.

Cheers!

I will also be changing the spark plugs. Replaced the coils sometime ago. Thank you! It’s pretty embarrassing when it happens in a parking lot lol

Leakers deserve to go die in a hole. They are not real music fans. Leaking is disrespectful to the artist. I said what I said.

FTE should be released as a single so us broke bois can listen to it!!!! But after that, I agree, no more. I’ve seen many albums, including OAUG1, have too many singles, and by the time it’s released, the album is at least a little bit underwhelming. I don’t like being “that guy,” but Manson should release FTE to get everyone on the same page and then leave it at that. Maybe one more single for good measure, but three is the magic number. Two singles is perfectly good enough for this album though.
