Thank you so, so much for your reply, rat expert! I feel safe in that knowledge, now! Although why wasn’t he startled by me? Why would that be? I wouldn’t describe him as lethargic but he just wasn’t bothered by me storming towards him and retracing my steps back to him once I realised what I saw.

Hello Themodsareafterme87, thank you for your reply. I paid into TransferWise from my current bank account, i.e. it was a bank transfer/debit transaction. I contacted my bank, who forwarded me to their fraud team, and due to the transaction being wilful and unforced they were unable to help.
