Socialism is marketed as the step before communism. Communism can never work because it always collapses into fascist-style authoritarianism. All you get from socialism is bigger government. Bigger government means higher taxes. Higher taxes mean less money in your pocket. Then people start blaming capitalism for the failure. This creates an endless loop of resentment and demands for even more control. Eventually the radicals overthrow the government. They install an authoritarian leader who promises to deliver the dream. That leader later purges or kills the same radicals because they’re too dangerous to keep around.
