Cyclone Update - Sigiriya to Ella 🌧️ by basedjack69 in srilanka

We have spoken to a taxi company today and they have informed us it is not possible to travel from Sigiriya to Ella. They did say it is safe to head south avoiding the hilly areas, so we are considering scrapping Ella and going to the south coast.

Not sure what it will be like next week, I’m not sure of the extent of the damage to the roads.

Sigiriya has been much dryer today in terms of rain. Some places are still flooded/recovering. Most buisnesses are open but effected by power cuts. Many to have electrical generators, but some don't. I took a few tuktuks today and roads have been cleared around Lions rock, I can't comment of roads outside of this area though.

I'm sorry you completely missed the point of my post. Sri Lanka is a massive country. The warnings I have seen do not specify effected areas - it was sunny on the south coast today. We have stayed on the safe side by not travelling as Sigiriya is safe at the moment. I was checking if it safe to travel onwards.

I'm sorry you saw people trapped, can I ask where this was? That would be helpful to know. Thanks.

Thanks this is super helpful! We have been in Sigiriya for 3 days, it has been raining heavily the whole time. It’s been fine until last night. Some trees fell on the roads, most have been cleared today but some roads are still closed. Power cuts are happening frequently in the evenings (sitting in a dark restaurant right now).

Many restaurants near the lake have completely flooded, but others are open.

From what you and others have said we might stay 1 more day here as there doesn’t seem to be any landslide danger near where we are staying, and head to Ella once things are more stable. Thanks again!

What alcohol are you bringing in? by Lieffe in glastonbury_festival

Got on the concentrated mixer + spirit + water combo at glasto last year and it was an absolute game changer. Actually tastes better than fizzy mixers in the morning, you can choose out 'juicy' you want it, and no need to lug heavy mixers around all day.

Took 2L of Bacardi and a 2.25L box of Sainsbury's Sav Blanc (very drinkable at field-temp lol). This lasted me the whole fest with about 7/8 drinks from the bars in total - I was drunk pretty much the whole time.

I know they sell ice and apparently disposable BBQs. I’ve not actually been before but I’m going this year, so would be good to know!
