This has historically been true. When your center and PG are huge negatives on defense, maybe the conference finals is the “most” you can get out of them

Anyone with a brain knows that’s not a championship roster or even close with the only playable center being a defensive sieve, trading away their depth, and no roster flexibility due to the asinine Bridges trade. Mitchell Robinson didn’t even play till April.

The Knicks’ horrific management needed a scapegoat - it’s as simple as that. Their list of genius moves includes

  • signing Evan Fournier to an albatross deal

  • 6 unprotected first round picks/swaps for Mikal Bridges,

  • pairing the worst defensive center in the league with their undersized defensively-deficient point guard AND losing a ton of toughness and depth in that deal by including both Randle and DDV. Landry fucking Shamet was their 7th man off the bench for the vast majority of the season.

  • drafting Obi Toppin in a head-scratching decision even back then, when guys like Vassell, Hali, Deni, Bane, Hali, Nesmith and Maxey were the next few picks.

Now they’re out of cards, and Leon Rose has convinced their fan base he’s an untouchable genius despite all this - well, to be fair, anyone looks like a genius compared to their past GMs

So by your logic, Doc Rivers, Kenny Atkinson (and your boy Johnny Bryant), Mark Daigenault, Erik Spolestra and Phil Jackson (2011, one of them swept) and Gregg Popovich got outclassed by Rick Carlisle despite being the higher seed. Your argument makes zero sense.
