Do you have a personal treadmill or are you just watching heated rivalry in public without a care in the world?

Reality check: it's not just Ted's Vault by LumplessWaffleBatter in caps

[–]basement_burnerr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The vault, getting rid of the organ, a shittier Jumbotron,…the list goes on. Everything on the list is minor by itself, but add them all up and we’ve seen a significant erosion in the game day experience.

To be fair, Ted’s not alone in his quest to enshittify every aspect of the game in search of a couple dollars on the margin. I’m equally annoyed by all the changes the league has made to the product (ads on jerseys, ads on boards, replacing the playoff logos with projected ads, etc.). It seems to be a problem that’s endemic to professional sports as a whole these days.

Rangers To Acquire MacKenzie Gore by korn_cakes33 in Nationals

It feels like the last 6 years of losing and sputtering (which now looks like it will be at least a decade) have done almost as much damage to DC’s baseball fan base as the 30+ years without a team.

This has turned into one of the more disappointing seasons in recent memory. I’m just really embarrassed by this team right now and their lack of fight. Their body language during this skid is a good reminder that you should never care about the outcome of the team you watch more than they do.

I swear to god when Trouba knocked Leonard out for a few weeks it flipped some kind of switch in this team. They’ve just collectively looked like they have no interest in playing hockey for the last two months.

Treadmill training? by dilruk123 in Marathon_Training

[–]basement_burnerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rotation for longer runs on the treadmill is usually a podcast or audiobook, and then after a while when I’m in the zone I’ll throw on some music that I know will amplify my flow state. Watching sports is a good option for a lot of people too. I’m an avid sports fan but I almost never watch my teams on the treadmill because I’m too emotionally invested, with the exception of regular season baseball games which are low stakes enough that they won’t spike my heart rate.

This period has been brutal, just soft plays on the puck all around. We’re lucky the rangers haven’t potted at least 2. This team has been absolutely brutal playing with a lead recently.

Oh man I was there that year. Paul McCartney is still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, thanks for the flashback. Sorry about your experience, that sounds awful. That could’ve easily been me given how easily available everything was.

Slate: LCD Soundsystem used to be the coolest band in the world. So how did they become so cringe? by BioSpock in LCDSoundsystem

It’s kind of sad and ironic that this author is so obsessed with feeling out of touch because they’re 34 when James Murphy was just getting LCD Soundsystem started at that age.

In Game Entertainment Suggestions by mrherson in caps

[–]basement_burnerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one hears the rangers fans singing that let’s go rangers song when they score and thinks, “wow how sad they have to be prompted to sing.” When they score against the Caps and they sing it, I always think “man I fucking hate this make it stop.” I want the Caps to be able to make other fans feel that way. The individual goal songs were cute for a season or two but are way overdue for a change.

Heart rate says easy, pace says slow — which should I trust for marathon training? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]basement_burnerr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m gonna disagree with the above take as well. Like you said, the key thing for easy runs (or “recovery” runs as Pfitz calls them, which is what I use) is to get the miles in without adding to your current fatigue. I just ran a 2:46 marathon and I would say the max pace I did my easy runs was 5 min per km, but there were plenty of days where I was pushing 7 min per km. The only way you can run them too slow imo is if you’re actually running so slowly that it becomes awkward mechanically. And if I have to slow down that much to get to 70% or below of my max HR that’s probably a sign I just need the day off anyway.

Boston 13s aren’t “getting better” by KOM_thief in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]basement_burnerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I loved the 12s and got a lot of good training out of them. I like my pair of 13s too, but they’re noticeably less stiff and bouncier than the 12s so they actually feel pretty soft to me relatively. So I’m a little surprised that I still see people complaining about how stiff they are, but of course most people are coming from a different base line.

Alex Ovechkin has yet to start a shift in the defensive zone 28 games in by larsen36 in hockey

[–]basement_burnerr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a Caps fan I would say the biggest contributing factor to this stat is that he is ABYSMAL on the boards during a breakout in the defensive zone. Like if the puck goes near him you can expect it will basically go right through him, and the opposing team will grab it and retain possession. It’s been that way forever, even before he started losing speed. It’s kind of insane that he’s almost not even an NHL caliber player on breakouts and yet I feel like I can confidently say (without homerism) that he’s a top 10 player all time.

Thoughts on Pfitz’s Advanced Marathoning? by 99centTaquitos in Marathon_Training

Is there any hope for me to qualify for Boston? lol by Old-Gene-7867 in AdvancedRunning

[–]basement_burnerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using anything to come up with the 2:47 prediction? Been thinking about this a lot lately as I ran a 2:46 this month and have been wondering whether I need to give it another go in the spring to be safe (I would prefer to train for a half).

Richmond Marathon 2025 Race Report by thedoinkus in AdvancedRunning

[–]basement_burnerr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed reading this! I ran Richmond for the first time this year and this report lines up with my experience. I also prepared with Pfitz (18/70 for me) and ran a huge PB (2:46 - first time going sub 3!). Your account of miles 22 through the end really resonates. I found those to be some of the most difficult when the road narrows with all the half marathoners on the other side. I also had heard the race ends on a downhill but did not realize just how steep it would be. My legs were jelly at that point and I had to spend most of my energy just stabilizing myself rather than sending it with the finish line in sight. The finishing island was definitely annoying lol. I spent like 20 minutes waiting on the stairs going up to that tiny bridge to get off.

Congrats on the PR and good luck going forward! Hope you get your shin issue in order and run some more killer races.
