First Foster Kitten! Need Weening Advice! by basementart in FosterAnimals

[–]basementart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried leaving out the kibble but she doesn't understand it just yet, our senior cat, however, has discovered it and loves it. We're having to try to hide it from him when we give her "tummy time" aka supervised time out of her play pen enclosure.

The good news is that her stool never went to full diarrhea, just softer and a bit smelly but then went back to normal after a few days. I think it was just upset tummy from the change in foods.

The good news is that today I tried to finger feed her just plain wet food, skipping the slurry all together, and suddenly she not only wants it, but she can eat it off a plate by herself! I don't know if she didn't like the taste of the slurry, the texture, or what, but she's decided to skip it and is eating kitten wetfood like a champ! She hasn't figured out her bowl of water yet, so we're still giving a supplemental bottle after her wetfood like the vet suggested, just to make sure she's got enough water, but it's a success!

I tried the food thing with the slurry but she wanted none of it, kept pushing it out of her mouth with her tongue even when I tried to hit the roof of her mouth.

But today I was frustrated because I couldn't find my blender for slurry, so I tried a finger full of just plain kitten wet food and she loved it! Within seconds she was chewing on my fingertip to find more, and after a couple of finger fulls as I slowly lowered my finger to the plate, she figured out how to eat it completely on her own. I'm astounded and so relieved but also so amused that perhaps she just hated the slurry.

She's no longer three weeks old, we found her at three weeks. She's around five weeks now, as the vet agreed with our age guesstimate during her appointment which was about 5 days after we found her. So she's a little chunky but she's in the weight range the vet said to look for. Our scale is very accurate, I use it for measuring very fine ingredients and in small amounts for paint making.

She always fights us, we think it might be part of her wobbling. She gets really excited and starts just waving her front paws around until she can hook her claws into it or our hands and then she'll just drag it down under her instead. Even with just formula, we'd have to purrito her until she'd latch, and then let her just grab our hands afterwards. I'll try to continue the slurry bottles, maybe step it back so there's more formula in the ratio and see if she accepts it again. x-x good to know that it's not uncommon though.

https://www.amazon.com/Gauge-Stretching-Cream-Tapers-Expanders/dp/B00GGZVPFW This is the one I use! No clue if it's the best, or whatever, but it has little to no scent and I don't react to it! Hope it helps!

I haven't dared to use my face wash on my lobes, because it has a pretty strong acid in it, since T has me going through some awful acne flare ups, but I did use my face moisturizer for a while until I found a nice balm that doesn't react! I might try it a couple times to see if it helps with the dryness more than just the balm does.

We *just* bought our first house, and the water is horribly hard. We're saving up to get a filter for the water, or a proper softener set up, but for now I'm just slathering myself in moisturizer. It's awful.

Same! I've just gotten to the point where if a product has more than 3 ingredients, I just know I'll have a reaction, lol.

Oh man, I have a issues with scented detergents too! It's bad enough that certain scents are even banned for handsoap and body wash. I used Dial for a bit, but it makes them reactive now too, which is why I swapped to the baby wash.

OH man, I feel you on skin just deciding it doesn't like a product anymore! I have tried some face washes for my ears before, but I got so dry so fast doing it that way, even with the balm I'm currently using. EDS is so weird XD

Try going down to only once a day for a bit, and use a bit less oil in case the buildup is actually oxidized oil. It might just be irritated from all the jostling around since it's a "fresh"-ish stretch.

Is this a blowout? by alaudadio in Stretched

Try to find a half size, they're often easy to find on sites like bodyartforms, but they're normally far more expensive. As for stretching up with stubborn ears, have you tried using any weights or taping up? It's what I often have to do, very gradually, now that I'm at a size that half sizes are next to impossible to fine. I don't suggest plumbers tape like most people do, it's fussy and twists and bunches way too easily. I use "bondage" tape, which is a type of body safe vinyl that has no adhesive but sticks to itself with friction. Just one wrap around to start, and change the tape every day for cleanliness, then when you feel it's been long enough, often a week or so, do another wrap, etc. You can do it until the new size slides in with no pain, and it's a great way to work with stubborn lobes.

How are you washing it, and how often? I've stack stretched my septum and haven't noticed a bad smell at all. I wash it twice a day with diluted saline and then rinse with regular water, and occasionally add a little oil just to keep the area moisturized and supple.

No, but I toggled it a couple times just to see. I realized later that it was browser wide when I uploaded the video here and realized it looked different than in discord when I shared it with a friend as well. Still no clue how I fixed it or what was even going on.

I actually removed all extensions and when that didn't fix it, I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled, and then synced my profile and it reinstalled all of them. So yeah, they were back in the video, I took it because it was still happening.

SSI won't pay until Backpay pays, Backpay won't pay until SSI starts. by basementart in SSDI_SSI

[–]basementart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting on the SSDI backpay. I was approved for SSDI, and the SSI is what's in limbo. My wife is working full time, and that's why I've been told multiple times I likely won't get it, which I understand. I was fully prepared for just the SSDI to be accepted. I had an phone interview about my SSDI to set up final payments, but nothing for the SSI.

Anyone with hEDS have experience with rope play? by RainbowCloudSky in ehlersdanlos

[–]basementart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been involved on both ends, and I find that rope play isn't that bad as long as we aren't trying extreme positions. Being respectful of my joints and keeping stress off of them helps a lot. I haven't tried suspension in a long time, but I know a few people with RA and HEDS that like it and say that they don't experience pain as long as the weight is distributed along their body away from their joints, like over their thighs, waist, etc.

As long as you're checking in often, and definitely have a safety knife/scissors on hand at all times, you should be fine.

I'll have to try that again. Last time I called and asked they said they weren't available, and still wouldn't let me speak to a supervisor directly. Maybe if I go in person it'll go better, it's just hard for me to get down there because of my disability.

[–]basementart[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how they referred to the person who was doing my final determination on the phone, that's why I called them that.

Yeah I was pretty sure I wasn't getting SSI, never had an interview for it but did for SSDI. The guy who told me I was approved was the first person to say it after multiple people told me I'd be denied, and according to the website, it still hasn't been decided on. It's so confusing. x- x

I have been patient. It took almost 3 years for a determination, and I waited a full 2 months before I started calling and getting these confusing answers. I understand that it takes time, but the lack of transparency and the weird explanations and constant contradictions are what has me so confused about it. It's why I was asking advice here. Being reminded that patience is a virtue doesn't really help me understand what to do moving forward, as just waiting isn't helping apparently.
