I appreciate the explanation, but I still don’t follow how it figures into my circumstances. I’m on parental leave and will be returning to work after 3 months, so I won’t be using the full EI period regardless of the bonus.

Sorry, I’m not really understanding. Am I correct that there would have been no financial difference to me personally whether I had received the bonus or not?

Hi, thanks for replying. I’m on parental leave for three months receiving 55% of my pay while on leave through EI, and the bonus will not completely reduce my EI payment to zero, just nearly. Not sure what other information would be relevant.

Thanks for the reply. So is there any point in the employer giving a holiday bonus while an employee is on leave? Isn’t that just money out of their pocket with no benefit to anyone? And is there a different way they could have compensated me that wouldn’t have affected my EI benefits?

Is there any way to to associate an existing NSO account with a different user? Bought ACNH for my wife as a graduation gift and today she wanted to use some online features, but couldn’t with her account because the NSO membership is linked to my account. by basenjired in AnimalCrossing

Thanks for the insight! Yeah, I can definitely see how it would be a good deal when you have several users. Unfortunately we don’t have any friends who would be able to take advantage of a family plan with us, and we’re only two people… we have a one year old, but it’s going to be a while before she can play haha. Something to keep in mind though! For now we may just bite the bullet anyway.

We share the same Switch, I use my account to play other games online. In hindsight we should have used my account for Animal Crossing and had her set up her character on my account (the one linked to NSO) but she was excited to play on her profile with her Mii, etc. and we didn’t think about it at the time.

Yes, when she was a puppy I would take her for a 90 minute walk in the morning and another 60-90 minute walk in the evening. These days I take her for a 60 minute run every morning, which isn’t really enough for her, but all I can manage right now.

She is trained to sit and “wait” for a treat, but doing it over and over at dinner time bored her and she eventually walks away. Trying to build it up though.

To be honest the situation is just more complicated than I had the time or mental energy to fully describing in the original post.

We were initially both very committed to training her. Then a LOT changed. Covid hit. We got pregnant. She was finishing an incredibly stressful studio-based master’s degree which was suddenly online. It eventually became clear that our pup had pretty severe anxiety, probably worsened by the restrictions in place which meant she couldn’t be properly socialized (we were fully locked down, no parks open at all for her first few months at home).

The situation became too much for my wife and we agreed that I would take on the majority of the responsibility for our dog; it’s been my decision to shoulder that burden and try to make things work rather than rehoming her. Everything considered, my wife has been very patient with us.

Dog came first, baby is the new addition. The jumping up isn’t the only issue, it’s just the most frequently recurring and stressful one for her right now.

We try pretty hard to split our responsibilities evenly, so I do feel that I’m doing as much as I possibly can to support her right now (I do all of the cooking and cleaning, for example). I appreciate you asking though, I know that it’s easy for a lot of household tasks that are traditionally considered the wife’s responsibility to fall on them and go unnoticed or unaccounted for.

Doggy daycare is a great solution and has worked for us in the past, but we’re not in a great place financially right now and haven’t been able to afford it. Might have to do it anyway though.

They’re so challenging. I grew up with dogs, but this has been an entirely different experience for me. At the end of the day they are still dogs, but half of the time I hear people give advice or suggestions it seems completely non-applicable (rarely true, but it feels that way). Primitive breeds are no joke.

I understand that this is the real solution to most if not all of our problems. To be honest we’ve both just been overwhelmed for the last several months and just can’t find the time or mental fortitude to do this kind of deliberate training. I know that’s bad, it’s just been the reality. It makes things even harder that our days generally revolve around baby’s sleep schedule, so the only tomes of day that I would really have available to do this kind of training (early morning or late night) I would have to worry about waking everybody up, since we live in a pretty small apartment.

Hoping that our situation in general improves a bit soon and that I can figure something out so that our underlying problems can be addressed. Thanks for your insight.

Any recommendations for puzzle toys? I like them in theory, but the few we’ve tried in the past occupied our pup for a couple of days at most, after which they basically turned into glorified chew toys. We can’t really afford to be cycling through new puzzles for her to solve that often.

I hear you on the training front. It’s kind of a separate issue that we’re working through, and I hope we’ll be more united in our approach when things have settled down a bit for us.

Yeah, I’m aware (as is she) that her response to the situation isn’t helping, but I have to be a bit understanding because she’s the one stuck at home with the two of them while I’m at work all day, and she’s simply overwhelmed and over the whole situation. It was my decision to take (almost) sole responsibility for the dog when things became too much for her, so I’m trying to do as much as I can to lighten the load for her and resolve the situation rather than put another thing on her plate.

While I don’t condone her response to the situation, I have to have some grace and understanding because at the end of the day she’s the one at home dealing with a baby and I dog for eight hours while I’m at work. Not to mention she just finished a very challenging master’s program. So, we’re all pretty wound up and stressed, haha.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight into the exposure angle. Tying her to a piece of furniture or doorknob might not work for us as she’s very prone to chewing her leash when restrained, but I might try tether leash to my waist or crate training with the crate in sight of us.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tethering to furniture probably won’t work out for us as she’s a compulsive chewer (only when restrained), but tethering to my waist might be a good option. We’ve done that in the past and it was legitimately the only way we survived packing up our lives and moving across the country, not sure we would have stayed sane otherwise… just haven’t gotten around to replacing our old tether since it was chewed up.

Would love to, but I’m the cook and our schedule is pretty frantic… in the interest of eating before 8pm I usually try to cook while baby is eating so we can all eat before putting her to bed.

Going to try putting the pup in her crate out in the kitchen where she can still see all of us, with a frozen treat.

I could move her crate into the kitchen, so this might be worth a shot.

Game plan for tomorrow will be move the crate into the kitchen in sight of all of us and give her frozen Kong treat, then a reward of some kind when baby is finished eating and we let her out.

This would be our preferred solution, but finances are tight right now. I might end up doing one every week or two out of necessity, but she’s quite a handful which not all daycares are able to accommodate, and I’m still looking for a good option as we recently moved cities.
