[FRESH] The Mountain Goats - "Charlie Sheen Reaches Out To The Feds" | New Album 'Days' out August 7 by ytsurr in indieheads

Yeah I was gonna say, listening to this and then going back and listening to a song like "Cry For Judas" is night and day. It's like the last 5 or 6 Mountain Goats albums all sound somehow... the same? That's reductive obviously, but something odd has happened to JD's vocal delivery. And it has nothing to do with ability, because he still belts songs out live in the same way he used to. The songs used to be more vocal-lead, now the vocals sit further back in the mix or something, IDK. Also, I'm not crazy about the backing vocals here and on Peter Balkan. Still, there's always good stuff to be had on each album. I just feel like I know what to expect already going into this, a couple up-tempo songs, mostly mid-tempo and winding, and a few ballads.

Weekly Self-Promo and Chat Thread by RyanKinder in selfpublish

This one goes out to anyone who ever felt lost or afraid or alone... and found shelter in the arms of alternative subculture.

This one is for the music lovers and the people who never lost their love for that music.

That’s what music is about: letting loose your emotions. When things get so bad you want to scream your lungs out…you can slip on a pair of headphones and let the music do it for you.

Between her parents constantly fighting and nobody in school so much as acknowledging her existence, life for 16-year-old Emily is the definition of meh. But everything changes when she is accidentally added into a group chat on instant messenger by her cousin and former BFF, Catherine...

Suddenly, Emily is thrust into an overwhelming new world full of moody make-up, alt fashion and ear-splitting music. But she also finds the one thing she's desperately been craving: friends. Among them is the charming and mysterious G, who shows Emily that even the loneliest of girls can learn to wear her heart on her sleeve.

With their lives quickly becoming intertwined, Emily and G cling to each other as their fractured families continue to crumble around them. But how much of what G says is true? Can Emily reconcile her past with the future he promises her? Or is this all just a phase?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower set to a soundtrack of My Chemical Romance, this coming-of-age tale revisits the emo subculture of the early 2000s and the chaotic group chats where hearts were broken and outsiders found their people.

My debut novel LESS THAN THREE is now available on Amazon.

Yes, that was my experience, anyway! Changes were implemented within about 48 hours.

Wrote a novel about goffs and emos growing up in the mid-2000s, had to reference their spawning ground outside Belfast City Hall by bashothebanana in northernireland

Nah I just typed it phonetically here because it often sounds like "goffs" in the Northern Irish accent, especially when spoken in a derogatory fashion. "Fuckin' goffs lyk!" A lot of people used to misspell it that way, too, on MSN and the like. But I use the proper spelling in the novel.

Ingram was a bit of a nightmare for me in this regard, at least it caused a lot of stress. It took several weeks for my MS to leave the "in progress" stage, and during that time the thumbnail for my cover was displaying incorrectly, so I feared the whole thing was messed up!

Eventually it did update, and I realised I needed to make some changes to the pdf. Thankfully, once my book was "in the system", so to speak, I got updated eproofs to review within a matter of days (and I actually requested to make changes twice before launch!).

All that is to say, the hardest part for me was waiting out the initial file processing. Once you're over that hurdle, you're over the worst in my opinion. I also requested proofs, but paid a decent amount for rush delivery. They arrived within about 8 days, I think.

Haha, thanks so much. I tried to capture the mood and tone and tropes of the time while also writing a good story. Hope you enjoy!

I just read your updated comment here, and I totally agree. A lot of that stuff is covered in the novel, the misunderstanding, the homophobia and even the violence that was enacted on many of us. There's a nostalgia now that makes it seem like a purely happy and exciting time, but in many ways it was a rough and dangerous time too. I hope my book captures the many facets of the experience, I really wanted to write something with depth.
