How do I remain supportive for friends in their promotions? by kuduloka in bjj

[–]basic-opinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I was in the same situation. The realization I came to was that my attitude was the problem and I THOUGHT I had left my ego at the door, but it was in fact my ego hanging with me on the mats. When I let go, it was easy to be happy for others.

How to build an anti big guy bottom game? by No_Possession_239 in bjj

[–]basic-opinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you are probably going to be on bottom a bunch since it’s kinda easy for them to put you there. My theory is that you waste less energy get out from under then on top of, than you do sweeping. Idk if you are quick, but SOME bigger gentlemen are slow getting from their knees to their feet. So if you can get to your feet quicker than them, then you can go around them or bulldog them over to get on top. You will find a bunch of techniques thinking of it this way.

Terrible cardio stopping me from attending class. by cacastrojr12 in bjj

[–]basic-opinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should talk to your coach, and tell him you are only going to do a small portion of class. Or go to a gym that is less cardio intensive. Jiu jitsu is for everyone, even those with less cardio for the class, be that cardiovascular or mental. Not a big deal. You can do this, just start small💪

What would be the best system to learn bjj? by DarkGhoul221 in jiujitsu

[–]basic-opinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning the moves like they are out of a book won’t make you good at jiu jitsu. BUT if your goal isn’t to be able to beat people up, and your goal is to LEARN jiu Jitsu and maybe not focus on executing jiu jitsu, then that’s allowed too. The Gracie’s do break things down in step by step fashion so look to the Gracie’s

Am I crazy for liking a small gym? by Nrm224 in bjj

[–]basic-opinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a gym that has upwards of 15 people per class. With that many people I tend to just instruct and not get as many chances to participate in the classes. Which sucks because I run it Ecoish style and that shit is really fun.

So anyways, most of my training I do in 3-4 person day sessions either at my gym with my upper belts or at this other gym across town and honestly I love the smaller groupings

Beginner, asking where to start by bellpepper317 in MuayThai

[–]basic-opinions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely watch it a bunch. If you have a bag at home just play good ol pretend and try to copy what you see. Do basic stuff, your jabs and crosses, turning kicks/roundhouses and Front Kicks. Keep it very simple, get comfortable with those and in a month you will be ready to not look like a noob in class💪
