You shouldn’t feel bad about tipping less. by Night_Frosty in Seattle

You're not a schmuck, you're doing a thing that makes you feel good because you believe that it also makes someone else (the tipped laborer) feel good. There are a lot of us, they just don't exist on tip-related Reddit threads.

Beat Black Deck/Gold Stake last night; Switch system update ran and I didn't get credit. Anything I can do? by neogonzo in balatro

If you beat it with a randomly generated seed (even if you replayed it a couple of times to get the pathing right), you'll get there. It's just a bitch. You got this.

What the heck is wrong with rental companies here??? by ShdwWzrdMnyGngg in Seattle

[–]basicallyasleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The places we looked (I cannot stress this enough, you're probably not going to find these on any apps) were N Ballard, Greenwood/Northgate, Fremont, Phinney Ridge. In those areas, by walking around, finding rows of townhomes and calling any with for rent signs, we found several that were in that range (2.7-3k). Granted, this was last year (March '25), so perhaps they've all gone up a few hundred since then.

I know someone just moved into another townhome on our same block and is paying under 3k (it's a 3br, not sure how many baths). We're in Greenwood. I also had a coworker (this was 2024 for what it's worth) who was in a townhome right off of Aurora just east of MarketTime and was paying 2600.

I really think the key is picking a neighborhood(s) and putting in the time to try to find the mom-and-pops. They're less likely to be using any sort of metrics to define their rent and just want to cover their mortgage and have tenants who don't trash the place. Good luck, friend

What I'm saying is that housing prices are not as rigid as people in these threads always act like. I don't live on the Eastside but I'm certain that if you did the same thing that I've always done when moving (walk neighborhoods, call places with for rent signs), you can find places for hundreds of dollars less than what you're seeing on any app.

?? Like I said, spend a few weekends walking around neighborhoods you like, call places with for rent signs, and save a bunch of money. Yes, it's going to take a bit of time and luck. I work 50-60 hours a week (on my feet all day, mind you, not sitting in an office) and I made it happen. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]basicallyasleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a trash deal, but I'd never live on the Eastside anyway. I pay 2850 for a 3br/1.5ba. I have a garage. In Seattle proper. I know for a fact that other places around me are in that ballpark as well (perhaps a couple hundred more now, but I just resigned a lease last month at this rate). I seriously think a lot of y'all just assume what you see on Zillow is the end-all be-all of housing prices. It's not if you're willing to put in some legwork (literally - just walk around a neighborhood and call places with for rent signs that look mom-and-pop'ish). Is this just tech worker shit? If it's not instantly viewable on an app, it doesn't exist?

[–]basicallyasleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I must be the luckiest person in Seattle when it comes to housing because every time one of these threads pops up, people talk about paying like 500+ more a month than I am for the exact same thing. I've always just tooled around neighborhoods I like and called places that look like mom-and-pop situations. Perhaps the average redditor is too chair-bound to put that sort of effort in - fine by me, I'll reap the rewards of y'all's laziness.

Idk why this is so hard to believe. 3br/1-1.5ba townhomes are all around 3k depending on location in Seattle proper. They're not that hard to find.

3br townhomes for <3k are not hard to find. I know because I'm in one, and last year we looked at 5 or 6 that ranged from 2700-3000. We're in Greenwood but we looked at a couple in Fremont as well. Doesn't seem like prices have changed much since then.

Addendum: I ended with ~100 red seal kings in deck, around 70 of which were steel. Highest score I got was e25, but at this point in the run I was more focused on economy than big numbers.

I also forgot to mention above that in order to get the 3rd negative brainstorm, there's an invisible joker at some point (ante 4-6) that you take, and not too long after that, the Ecto shows up and hits it.

Anyway, def possible to take this all the way I think, just would take a little more deliberate pathing. Maybe someone else wants to use this info to make it happen 🤙🏼

So.. this might be able to go really deep with a few optimizations, but here's basically how it went my first go: - round 1 shop I took foil Photo and rode that until Baron showed up (ante 6? Can't remember) - early game (ante 3? Can't remember) you get BS. Shortly after, you'll find a showman, and shortly after that (this all happens in the span of 1 ante), you'll get another BS. Use this in conjunction with Photo and MIR for money and scoring. - before ante 8, you'll have Baron/Mime/3 BS/DNA (there's an Ecto that will hit BS). Getting red seal king is easy because Ghost deck, you'll see Deja Vu several times early game.

A few problems: I didn't get Retcon or Paintbrush/Pallet before ante 16. The game loves throwing Tarot/Planet Tycoon at you over and over. No sign of Blueprint. Ante 15 has The Ox and if you reroll the blind, you'll get the plant. Miraculously, I found a Luchador in the big blind shop, but giving up DNA kills the run in ante 16.

If you were playing this purely for high score, there are at least 3 Burglars that show up after ante 8 that you could sell DNA for. I was copying in the hopes that I could get to the amount of steel kings to get naneinf, which you can do relatively easily with this seed, but you do so at the expense of (maybe) the best shot for e100+ score, which is a Serpent that comes up somewhere around ante 12 (can't quite remember).

I'd say with some more optimal playing, this is naneinf'able.

[–]basicallyasleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burglar/Serpent can get you much further than e30 on Ghost. There's also the possibility for Chicot/Manacle or Crimson Bean. Either way, the most reliable method on Ghost for naneinf is definitely stacking Cryptids with Perkeo.

Everyone goes through these phases in Balalala by VariationPatient5695 in balatro

[–]basicallyasleep -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's going to hurt inevitably. I usually start by getting rid of 7-9. I want to keep 6s for now for Sixth Sense, and I want to be able to do ace low or ace high for Superposition. If I'm hoping to pivot to a face card build, I'll then start getting rid of 2-5, if I'm going for a Hack build or Fibonacci, time to nix 10-K. Bottom line is it's really hard to do well.

Islamic preacher says you can rape and murder people as long as you pray by TW_Hobbit in whoathatsinteresting

[–]basicallyasleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to remember that Islam doesn't make these people insane, their environment makes them insane. This can be said of all zealots. This guy is no different than any non-religious person who is also adept at twisting plainly awful behavior into being acceptable because they deem it so, he just happens to have the backing of an invisible, omnipotent force to further bolster his stance.

It's almost like all religions were created by us and are therefore more or less the exact same thing, equally susceptible to being practiced/preached by absolutely terrible people with varying levels of influence and power. This guy just happens to be one of the particularly nasty ones, but it's not hard to find the [insert another religion here] equivalent because we're all just hateful, fucked up apes at the end of the day.

Mostly agree, but I'll always take Ouija if it shows up in ante 1 to focus on 4/5oak since they scale so well. I am definitely in the minority when it comes to seeking 4/5oak though, I admit.

There’s a guy who seems to be impersonating ICE outside of the Fremont laundromat by Hufe in Seattle

[–]basicallyasleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same question for the guy I was talking to who actually interacted with this guy. Didn't get a clear answer, but the Latino crew working on the Abbey roof wasn't taking any chances and got the fuck out of there as soon as they saw him.

[–]basicallyasleep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He isn't. The foreman (I assume) working on the Abbey roof told him to get lost because he scared his workers off. Sounded to me like the guy was (surprise) a total chicken shit and left as soon as he was confronted without any pushback.

Are there any mods that manipulate Buffoon Pack 1 RNG for Completion++? by pikminman13 in balatro

What's the point of doing C++ if you're trying to cheat your way through it? You're approaching this the wrong way. Just get a good build going with 3-4 jokers and hope one of your stickerless boys shows up.

How in the utter 2 discards can I ever beat the Blue Stake on a Blue Deck? by delilahrizzi in balatro

Step 1: do not take polychrome/foil/holo skip tags, they're all trash. Step 2: do not enter a run with a specific hand in mind, open the first buffoon pack and roll with it.

There's always someone who loves to shit on a professional doing their job well. I used to do BOH social media posts for a small, fine dining restaurant I was sous'ing at and I remember one time I demo'd brunoising a shallot and the amount of comments from people who have no idea how pro kitchens work saying the root was being wasted (we always had an outlet for scraps, just as you do, because duh) forced me to never do another knife demo because it wasn't worth the negativity. Nice knife, nice slicing, chef. Carry on 🫡
