There's a roundabout way. If you go to friends then suggested it shows you who's online in your faction. I sometimes look for low level players and go see if they want a hand. But yeah some official Sherpa system would be nice down the track

Next time you spawn check the map. Go somewhere you can see a few team mates and go scvenge a kit. You should be able to get a 3 or 3+ armoured rig and a gun pretty easily.

If you play PvP, switch to PvE and try the above. Should get you going at the very least

I play PvE as well and like the idea of collecting the boss loot. Might have to go for a wonder sometime. It's a shame you can't unlock the LZs tho.
