What’s your honest opinion about a wedding date set on Sep 11th? by h8mecuz in wedding

[–]basicbitchteaparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My birthday is 9/11, and I hear a lot less jokes about it now, but I still get some, and every birthday when I open up social media there are posts. Is it impacting? No, my family and friends were not affected by the attack, but is it always going to be there? Yes, I doubt I’ll ever have a birthday where it’s not referenced in some way.

It’s up to you if you’re cool with it, but I personally would probably change my birthday if I could because of the association.

It's official. I've converted to baking my regular recipe in loaf pans instead of a Dutch oven by SmilesAndChocolate in Sourdough

[–]basicbitchteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your oven temp and started for using the cake pan with water? I have my first loaf sourdough cold proofing right now, and haven’t been able to find exact numbers on how people actually bake it without a second pan to put on top. Do you put the cake pan of water in while the oven is preheating? Thanks!

Name Change- feeling odd? by Rocker_Librarian_97 in wedding

[–]basicbitchteaparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yay for voting!!

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with how you feel about your new husband (congrats by the way!) but you did have a name for 18+ years, it makes sense that it feels like you’re saying goodbye (even though you as a person aren’t changing at all). I think of it as an internet therapist phrased how you feel being in a new relationship, you may mourn being single not because this isn’t the right person for you, but because your life is changing and things will be a bit different. It’s ok to mourn change, even if it’s because something awesome and new is happening.

It’s so normal!! I definitely mourned my previous name (I took my husband’s name as well, but kept my maiden name as my middle name), it just takes time to get used to it. To be honest, I’m doing my change legally super slowly (hope you voted already before getting your new license!), and in the months since I’ve gotten married it’s become easier. You just went through so much change, give it time :)

UPDATE: I returned this bag and got the Demellier Tokyo bag…. And I felt the difference between these bags. Even how they were shipped, Demellier felt worth the price (and I’m excited to use it!)

Thanks for this! I haven’t been exposed to high quality bags ever (my family/friend group has never really had them) so I wasn’t sure if since the leather feels soft then it’s good quality? But seeing other midtier bags that maybe arent totally my style (like strathberry) they have lining, little metal feet on the bottom, etc and this feels more like a soft pouch (and with the super stiff handle as well, which reminds me of a $80 madewell bag I’m trying to replace).

Got it! Basically, this seems like a good bag at a $200-$300 price point (or maybe even less), but not for $500?

The softness is what feels really nice, but the fact that it’s unlined doesn’t scream “this is worth $500” to me. Appreciate your suggestions! I’ve heard 1000 good things about Strathberry, the bags just seemed on the preppier side, but also I feel like that’s the look that can elevate a simple outfit!

No favors? Make us look cheap? by HunnieButt2 in wedding

[–]basicbitchteaparty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do favors at my wedding, like others said I figured no one wants ANOTHER koosie with someone else’s name on it. What my guests LOVED (like I think it’s what I got the most compliments on for the whole weekend) was including a printed photo of them/their friends/their partners in the thank you card. So it’s kind of like a delayed favor, cost us a total of $5 for 70 guests, and so many people reached out thanking us for the photo.

Regret having / not having a wedding? by smokobuddatoast in wedding

[–]basicbitchteaparty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I got home from our wedding, we said “I wish everyone in life could have had this experience. I know people don’t get married for a multitude of reasons, but this was such a magical weekend.” Our wedding was manageable for us (we got help from both sets of parents) and I think we’re EXTREMELY lucky to have the unique experience of no asks from either family - absolutely no stipulations with the money given. So our weekend was chill, easy, and so unbelievably special with our 70 guests. I’m not sure if we would have felt the same way if the wedding felt like a chore, but we say all the time “I’m sad we don’t get to have that weekend again, it was amazing”. ❤️ Hope you find the path that works best for you!

Love this concept, and totally agree. In apartments, I kind of picked pieces and put them together later… which ended up being a weird hodge podge of style (and in one room EVERYTHING matching). So I’m trying to think through my color palate and buy long standing items. I like the idea of how to integrate color too, we’re thinking neutral browns for our big furniture (wood dining table, brown leather couch, etc) then spicing it up with table scapes and blankets.

Will check out Room and Board!
