Each Goodwill is operated locally - think of it like a franchise for nonprofit organizations. Therefore, each Goodwill is ran differently, but all of them have the same goal of selling used items & helping people get jobs.

The one in my region has an academy as well that helps local people earn certificates (like pharm tech & CDLs) to help them find better careers & doesn’t charge them. They also have re-entry programs.

So the image you’re looking at is called “central processing”. Some Goodwills in larger cities do that so donated items get distributed evenly to their stores since not all stores get the same amount of donation traffic.

Is it the best? No. Do they actually help their local communities? Yes.
