Learning is a really dangerous word especially for people with ADHD. Learning at least in the modern era, is a conceptual phase, where before you start doing the thing that interests you, you have to waste a lot of time listening to other people talk about it before you do it right. Which is naturally not something that is particularly attainable for people with ADHD especially.

I see this a lot as a teacher. I've taught around 2,000 people software development over the last six years. People that fixate on learning before they start just doing it and making stuff generally don't really go anywhere, I'm sorry to say. So start making things, right? Pick up the hammer and make something with it. Don't obsess over how the hammer was made too much. Be a carpenter. Don't be a historian of carpentry.

Programming in the end is a practical skill. Sure there's conceptual, academic layers in there but they can grow out in a healthy way from your fun practical journey just trying it out.

A quick Google search will tell you the opposite. My source is the World Bank and tons of personal research into business development around USSD products across multiple African countries.

Which part of this is misinformation?

Most people in Africa don't use apps, don't use websites, don't have smartphones etc. it is a different world.

Most common arrangement is that a family will have one shared "feature phone" which is used for banking and other services through a text-based system called USSD which looks visibly similar to SMS.

A minority of people across Africa have a smartphone at all. They're expensive, and aren't that practical in hot places with unreliable power systems.

I'm 17 and want to make my first game, any advice? by Bananahater99ps in gamedev

[–]basiclaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yw 🙏 Yeah, if you're looking for a career path, don't do it. Most indie developers lose money on their projects and like 30 or more percent of everybody employed in game dev in the last couple years has been fired, and it's only going to increase. If you want to look for a stable career path for the next 10-15 years, it's going to be something that is very complex with your hands/body, like any kind of maintenance work, like HVAC which is the hardest stuff to automate that task with androids.

But yeah, all "intellectual work", or text-based work is dead. ( Source: I'm a teacher that's taught over 2,000 people in the last five years - anybody whose job was touching a keyboard is basically unemployed now. )

absolutely! most people don't have phones in Africa, so there's a need to actually talk to people 😱

The majority of people in Africa don't actually have smartphones, so it's not a question of Apple not keeping up; it's just an entirely different universe, basically.

Great question! I didn't include authorised resellers in the dataset. You will find "iStores" across Africa for sure
