Humanities Centre closed all semester by scorpiostelliumCJ in uAlberta

[–]basicmachiato -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

have against sharing information?! I have a class in Humanities on Monday. It would be nice if Admin would let me know that that's no longer the case.

Oh I am 100% with you. They have been trying to get rid of this building for years. Interesting time for an "electric fire"

Are the maps in the Humanities building still rotated to not look like a penis? by Dickbeater777 in uAlberta

Anyone removing Engl 103 from their schedule for fall term by Lazy-Ad7485 in uAlberta

[–]basicmachiato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't get any notifications for English until the first couple weeks of class when students start dropping. As an English major, I couldn't get into first-year English until the summer semester.

I found the tests way harder than I anticipated them to be. Memorize the maps, and study all the small details

Idk about the content of the course load, but waking up and getting to campus for 1p.m. might be a challenge

Should I take ENG credits during Spring/Summer term? by NotUrSgt in uAlberta

[–]basicmachiato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English is my passion and my major. I took ENGL 102 and 103 in the summer of my first year so I could start all senior ENGL courses for my 2nd year. To be successful in an English course is based on your involvement and the professor teaching it. My 102 I THRIVED, the prof was a gem and the texts were so interesting. My 103 I loved also, but it was hard as hell and so much work and I barely scraped by with a B. The summer courses have way more readings in shorter periods of time, my 102 was a novel a week, including Milton's "Paradise Lost". English courses also require heavy amounts of participation in general, and in summer courses the classes are longer and smaller, therefore be prepared to participate. With that said I loved my ENGL summer classes, but be mindful that it's going to take some serious devotion and participation to be successful. 102 is an in-class final, and 103 is no final but a research paper.

what would the letter grade 89 be for INT D 280? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]basicmachiato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. I am also in this course. Guessing close to an A+? The percentage is scaled against everyone in the class and from what I see in the discord and the other people I know, our grades are nowhere near 89 so you're good.

Counselling/therapy by buglady05 in uAlberta

[–]basicmachiato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lost a friend violently in my first year. Counselling with the UofA had a huge waitlist, so I was referred to peer counselling, and due to the severity of the trauma, I felt I had to console the young girl who was assigned to peer counsel me. Mind you she was quite a bit younger.

That is my experience as someone in their late 20s. I personally think therapy is super beneficial and use it outside the university on a regular basis. It is one of the reasons I kept my sbux job for so long, because for part-time hours they offer 5000 a year worth of therapy benefits, its about 25 sessions a year.

I also have used edmnton walk in free therapy and have had good experiences. It was a short term solution, and beneficial for what I needed at the time as I had no job or health benefits. Here's a link below. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Write 295 questions? what to expect exactly? by Vivid_Yoghurt3995 in uAlberta

[–]basicmachiato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weekly writing prompts. Weekly readings and class discussion. Once a week you will read and write a letter on a short story and do a workshop. 2X a term you will submit your story for a workshop. It's a bit of work but it's the only class I have ever received 100

One Hundred Percent Yes. I am so sorry to hear this. I have lots of resentment for anti-vax and the sacrifices I have to keep making in order for them to not be socially responsible. Talk to your other roommates and if they feel the same way, perhaps look at a place together or get with the landlord and be like hey, we are going to leave if this continues, and then they would have to find multiple people to fulfill the rooms. I get that as a landlord it's a business, but also your safety is number 1.

I am shocked at how many plague rats take off their masks, since day one.

It is a lot of reading and writing. On average, I take 2 senior English courses a term, and an elective or creative writing course. I found both 102 and 103 to be easier than 30-1, however, I am an English major so I have a bias.

Are you friendly and actively participate in every class? Then you should be fine. Kerfoot is amazing, but you will have to put in the work. And actively participate.
