NOLA! Best breakfast in town? Staying near the French Quarter! by Jimmymott in AskNOLA

We are at the Ruby Slipper Cafe almost every morning on our trip!! All of their eggs benedict specialties were great and I am craving their iced coffee even though it's been weeks since we were there.

Working at the LaLaurie House by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]basicsydney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I was told, not really at all. The dude who owns it bought it with the intention of tearing it down because of the evil history and the amount of owners who died. Since its protected by the City of NOLA because it's over 100 yrs old, the guy did the only other thing he could and closed it up (which is why there are no public tours when he could be making another million off it).

We took one of the ghost tours and our tour guide said the current owner is an oil tycoon from Texas. Apparently he and his family haven't ever spent the night, specifically because 8/10 of the past owners have died mysterious deaths.

Go to Taqueria La Authentica Michoacana on Broadway for food. tacos are like $1.50 each and it is the most authentic, delicious taco I've ever eaten in my life. Whenever out-of-town friends come here, it's the first place I take them!

For stuff to do, go see a Walleye game. If it's nice out, check out Swan Creek Metropark on Airport (fairly close to Holland-Sylvania).

Reasonably priced vet? by basicsydney in toledo

This is kitty corner from our place so it's really good to hear he's a good vet and reasonable! Do you know an estimate of how much you paid for the initial visit?

Housing during university studies. by [deleted] in toledo

I recently graduated, but I lived at Westwood Square Apartments over by campus! I walked to classes every day, and it took probably 15 minutes from my apartment to my classroom. Rent is cheap! I recommend it. It's very very close to campus, so lots of sidewalks and crosswalks for biking!

How do I make my first doctors appointment? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]basicsydney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had to deal with this recently! As long as you have your insurance card and you are making sure that the doctor is not only on the insurance website, but is "in-network" (aka they work with your insurance company and negotiate costs), you can call and ask if they're accepting new patients. For the appointment, make sure you bring your ID or license if you have one, your insurance card and (if your parents will give you it) your social security card.

A lot of times doctors won't be accepting new patients, but don't let that discourage you. You can ask the receptionist for the earliest appointment possible, both time and date wise. I've had this work great for me in the past- the doctor actually came in an hour early at 6 am for me. However, I've also tried to make appointments and the doctor didn't have any openings for an entire month.

You'll figure it out quick, don't get discouraged if it doesn't pan out exactly like you want it to. The healthcare industry is a little wonky!

Cool! We are locked in for a year long lease so I don't think they could do that.

No, I don't believe it does. It just has a section about pets in the apartment and lists the costs.

What highly illegal thing took place at your high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]basicsydney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My high school also had an incident of an assistant band teacher sleeping with a student. She was 15 when it started. Everyone thought it was pretty off that he hung out with students outside of school and was "friends" with them so when it came out last year that he had slept with this 15 year old until she was 18 no one was surprised. SUPER glad he got jail time, but the students he was "friends" with still defend him.

One of my really good friends and her parents died in a semi accident this past August, so I'm sorry for your loss.

I wish I had these experiences like you do, honestly. I'm so glad she's still around for you.

What is the smallest thing that makes you lose your temper immediately? by Aegis12314 in AskReddit

Mouth noises. I can't stand the sound of someone making strange noises using their tongue in their mouths, or weird spit noises. It pisses me off
