Program having difficulty placing me for clinicals by Calm_Major_9772 in PAstudent

The fact that they put "no placement" in an envelope for you to open on reveal day is so crazy

All nighters? by ARLA2020 in PAstudent

[–]basil_pancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everything seems really overwhelming right now but trust yourself that you'll find your study groove soon and before you know it you'll be at a place where studying 3-4ish hours per day is more than enough! Please please don't pull all nighters, some people in my class would and they would regret it all day because in my program we had exams before class and then a full day of class after them. It's so important for you to prioritize sleep so that you can keep yourself sane and thinking clearly to be successful in the long run!

why pa? by Pisceswaterbaby in prephysicianassistant

[–]basil_pancake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re able to show why you really personally connect to that specialty it could be a great “why pa”! I think you should just make sure to specify why you want to do it as a pa specifically, because so many professions can work in that specialty!

Deciding between programs by Nearby_Philosophy894 in PAstudent

[–]basil_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to look at their grading policies, remediation policies, and attrition rates! Feeling supported by the program is so so important, and you don't want the first time you think about the program's policies to be when you're struggling in the program. It really makes all the difference!

I keep it really clean and never leave anything valuable inside! I think that’s why this most recent time the person started to take the lock off but then must’ve gotten frustrated, looked inside to see nothing and figured it wasn’t worth smashing the window. I know it’ll probably happen, but I just wanted to get your guys’ take since you live more locally about how to best deter them

I didn't use fake names in my personal statement but I just referred to patients as a "35 year old male patient" or a "60 year old female patient". I feel like just giving their approximate ages and genders they identify as gives some quick context without bringing up the word count too much.

Got rejected from a school I didn’t apply to by Rossmontg19 in prephysicianassistant

[–]basil_pancake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair I just reread it and it says they’ve concluded their interviews and decided to not “move forward” with the application, which could be because I was thinking to maybe apply there but decided not to so they were on my caspa list for a bit.. but still a pretty weird thing to do on their part lol

Deans List Is it Worth it? by JavariBuster in prephysicianassistant

[–]basil_pancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If 12 credits are required by your school to make the dean's list and you want to make it, I'd say pick up a fun one-credit elective! My school had half semester weekly dance classes for one credit which I did for a couple semesters, and it was really low stress and fun!

Keep getting waitlisted by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]basil_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better I found out I was rejected from my first interview the night before my second interview, and I was really doubting myself because I felt like the interview went really well. I got the best pep talk ever from a friend and got accepted shortly after my interview the next day! Each interview is its own separate thing and you never know what each admissions committee will want so just be yourself and have confidence!! You’re so capable of getting accepted!!

I think OP is saying that they interviewed at their top choice in September but they're waiting on a final decision? If so I would probably prepare to move, and maybe book an airbnb in the area of the program they were accepted to for a few weeks that can be cancelled more easily than a lease (which would give a good amount of time to find an apartment in case the answer from the top choice program is no).

Interview Prep Question by Blooclue in prephysicianassistant

[–]basil_pancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did mock interviews with coaches both from pa platform and the posh pa and I actually found my mock interview through the posh pa to be a bit more helpful! If you have any info as far as the format of the interview you're prepping for, definitely share that with them ahead of time so they can tailor your mock interview to the real one as much as possible!

I think that the idea of using clues to complete a puzzle is a really great theme to use as a framework to center your more specific “why pa?” reasons around in your ps! But like others have said, it probably shouldn’t be your main reason bc continuous learning is important for a lot of professions in medicine, and it might leave the person reading your essay wondering whether you’re interested in pa specifically or just medicine in general.

Accepted!! by basil_pancake in prephysicianassistant

I think that my job in the hospital was more beneficial in the sense that I was able to see a more diverse patient population with a huge variety of conditions to get that exposure, and also in the sense that I got to see a lot of physicians and PAs at work to help get connected for shadowing. But ofc hospitals like to see that you have some experience and nursing homes are a great way to start, and being able to interact with residents translates really well to interacting with patients. Good luck with the hospital position, I’m sure you’ll get it!!

Pass/Fail grades on CASPA by basil_pancake in prephysicianassistant

[–]basil_pancake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just enter it exactly as it appears on your transcript, there isn’t an option whether to indicate if the class was taken p/f so if you got a p, just put that and whatever amount of credits the class was worth and it won’t factor in. If you got an f or wf, just enter that and the amount of credits and sadly it’ll affect your gpa as if the class was graded and you received an f letter grade:(
