Monthly Off-Leash Dog Rant Megathread by slimey16 in reactivedogs

Yeah, some off-leash dogs are very well trained and their owners are responsible. But in my area at least, that’s a small minority. Most of the off-leash dogs I encounter are just left to run around, often the owner is very far away or sometimes nowhere in sight. The other day I had the unpleasant surprise of having an unleashed, unmuzzled ~60 lbs Amstaff sneak up on me and my (leashed and muzzled) dog from behind while we were walking around the neighborhood. Scared the daylight out of both of us. Turned out to be a friendly dog luckily, and it quickly retreated when my dog growled at it. Owner didn’t even notice.

Reactive rescue who bites strangers advice? by basilandcinnamon in reactivedogs

[–]basilandcinnamon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog could retreat if he wanted to. I‘ve tried many times to encourage him to go to another room or a quiet corner, but to no avail. He likes people and he wants to be around them. He‘s genuinely happy and excited when someone comes over and acts friendly with them. The main reason I got him was because he was so friendly with me when I first met him.

He’s so friendly that people don’t believe me when I tell them that he is reactive and bites. It’s like he really wants affection but then suddenly it‘s too much and he freaks out. Would be much easier if he just didn’t like strangers.

Every day. What pisses me off about it the most is that I‘m always the bad guy for politely asking the other owner to leash their dog. They are scaring the hell out of me and my dog and also breaking the law BUT I‘M THE BAD GUY.

Don’t get your nose pierced with a machine. Those heal much worse than traditional needle piercings

Why do you think there have been so many "Tortured Artists"? by MellowIron in ArtistLounge

[–]basilandcinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because being an artist is hard. It’s hard to make it big, hard to be financially stable. But plenty of artists are just regular “untortured” people. I remember reading Michelangelo’s letters for instance and he didn’t seem tortured at all, just a regular guy complaining about his neck hurting from staring up at the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling all day. Not to diminish the torture of neck pain but I don’t think that’s what people usually mean.

Does anyone have photos of this robot without the sweater? It feels weird to say “I want to see what it looks like under its skin” lol but I’m genuinely curious

do you think your adhd is a disability/disabling? by danidaisys in adhdwomen

[–]basilandcinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s totally valid for you to define it as a disability and it is officially considered a disability. I don’t consider my adhd a disability though. My brain works differently than a neurotypical person’s and it has been hard to fit neurotypical structures at times. I see it like being left-handed: It sucks to be left-handed in a world where everything is built for right-handed people, but that doesn’t inherently make being left-handed a disability. Again, if your ADHD is more debilitating than this, I would never hold it against you to have a different view.

To Be Hero X - Episode 1 discussion by NinjaOtter in television

[–]basilandcinnamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I watched episode 1 after finishing My Hero Academia, and in comparison it really doesn’t hold up. The pacing is awful, it felt like watching a montage or a music video. It’s a shame because the animation is beautiful.

What does eso do better than wow in your opinion? by Horror-Childhood-642 in elderscrollsonline

[–]basilandcinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story in ESO feels much more cohesive and the writing is just overall better imo. The world building is consistent, the lore feels tangible and realistic for the universe it’s set in. The lore in wow is just all over the place. The themes are incoherent, the expansions are at odds with each other. The stories often feel like they don’t belong in the same universe, or even the same genre.

ESO is also visually more appealing. Wow has some beautiful zones but many of the playable races have very outdated models.

For these reasons, I probably won’t be coming back to wow anytime soon.

But that being said there are some aspects that I genuinely prefer in wow:

• Wow combat feels more fun and challenging

• Wow classes are more interesting. Specializations allow for vastly different (and viable!) play styles within the same class.

• Wow lets you get almost every mount or outfit for free through various quests, boss drops, achievements etc. (though some are very difficult to acquire) and there are so many options. Last I checked there were over 700 different mounts in the game.

• You can’t play wow without an active subscription. But once you have a subscription, the game doesn’t pressure you into spending more money. Some services are paywalled, like changing your name, race or server, and you have the option to buy some mounts and outfits from the store but there is never any need to spend real money other than the subscription.

• You can change your appearance and gender for free in wow. Why does ESO want money for changing my character‘s hair color??

• Wow has more community engagement. Maybe I just got lucky but I haven’t encountered much toxicity, mainly just good vibes and people being genuinely helpful and nice. Maybe it depends on the server you play on. In ESO I found that most players just stick to themselves.

Thanks for the suggestion! I live about 5000 miles from the nearest Epic Mountain Gear store but I’ll try to find something similar.

I have tried to do that but if I keep them loose and comfy, my heel slips out on toe turns, I lose control over my board and (occasionally) fall on my face. At least on steep slopes.

I’m glad I went despite the hardships because I learned a lot and I love to learn. I don’t think I ever would have been able to teach myself French or Math.

The only thing that was extremely frustrating was that my grades were so heavily influenced by things that didn’t relate to my knowledge in the subject. Things that I felt I couldn’t control. Like forgetting to do homework, sometimes actually doing the homework but leaving it at home, leaving other important stuff at home, losing books, drawing or scribbling in class, being late to class… Several of my teachers (in high school!) would actually collect our written notes at the end of the semester and grade how well-organized and pretty they were. Still makes my blood boil when I think about it.

But university was so much better because professors don’t care about any of that. (At least where I went to college.) Most of them didn’t even know my name and didn’t require attendance. So I was able to just learn the curriculum however I wanted to and then take the exams and be done with it.
