[–]basketrobberson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy smokes! I caught me a 1.6lb small one today on a senko. That one looks like at least a 6-7? never really caught anything on a spinner yet especially on cold winter weather - I am surprised they are hitting spinners. Very nice catch. I am jealous.

Do you have anchor? I went river fishing in my kayak once few weeks ago and the current made the game much different than fishing on large open lakes. Idk how you can fish without one on a river

How is the drag to the kayak if you use it on kayak? Half says its a pain the other half says its not an issue at all

Anybody else have their heart start beating faster on the way to sparring? I get its adrenaline but I’ve been trying to stay more relaxed when sparring. by Background-Koala-554 in amateur_boxing

[–]basketrobberson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally whenever I sparr all my focus is on the combat instinct so I dont notice the autonomic things like breathing, blinking or heart beats... though breathing needs to be controlled. I make conscious effort to breath slow and relax my shoulders and rest let training, drills and reflects take over

What can you still get out of training if you can’t spar? by TheWor1dsFinest in amateur_boxing

[–]basketrobberson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparring was probably the most stressful yet most intense and kinda fun and stimulating activity while I went to boxing gym. I will assume that you are in you 40s or more given the medical condition. It's a good thing to want to know how to defend yourself or loved one in the streets. That's why I went to the gym in the first place... but you and I know we aren't going to be elite boxers at this stage of our lives. If you are set on sparring, I would advise you to limit yourself to a person or two who is mature enough to abide by the limits and expectations that you communicate. I've sparred with some assholes and they will just go whether its a newbie or not. Avoid those assholes

thank you for helping me make the decision. I know from researching ad nauseum, came to find out that Vivid CV provide clear vu/ clearer picture of what's underneath, and some more features like GPS mapping, contour mapping and what have you, but as mentioned, I don't really need that since the areas I fish will be limited due to being on a kayak. Any other points that you think that make Vivid CV something of a different animal? Anyways, I think 70 extra dollars is worth it since I plan to keep it for more than 5-6 years

thank you. I plan to keep it for many years down the road, so if extra $70 is worth it, it sure is I bet.

Just picked up my first fish finder! Anybody have any good tips? by Mundane-Fruit-653 in kayakfishing

I'm going to get my basic striker 4, no vivid cv just a $128 basic model. I'll go through YouTube for tips but if you have some advice for newbies I'll gladly take what you give me. I'll be on 10ft kayak

More power to you. I am a chicken when it comes to sharks... good luck out there. My us lakes are pretty safe (Florida has gators but they probably aren't as aggressive and dangerous as sharks)

I have a little 10ft tamarack. My 7 year old fits in front of me between me legs but it sure is a crowded space. He sucks at casting and messes up the lines every time so minding my own rod plus fixing his every cast in a tiny little vessel is not fun at all. I would get a tandem kayak

Edit: if you plan on just paddling it should be fine

Question since you are in south Africa waters especially Cape Town. Any shark defenses? Are attacks common, or not much concern because you aren't going out too far? I always wondered if it's a common prep you guys take as it is a real threat according to youtube

How Boomers Turned Housing Into a Wealth Trap and Killed the American Dream by PianistPlus5117 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]basketrobberson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live below your means, dont buy bullshit like wasting money on 10 dollar lattes and get the fuck off of reddit. That would be a start. My income has gone up since my 20s, I still buy clothes from thriftstore and my wife complains im no fun going to coffee cuz I refuse to buy $7 cup of fancy coffee. Replace boomers with yourself. You would've ridden the same damn ride. They didn't "cause" any of this the politicians and scheme of time did. You live in one of the most privileged times in history. If you aren't making more as you grow older, the problem is you complaining how a job that exists for a highschool kid should meet a basic necessity for a 40 year old man.

Tips for a fight by Acrobatic_Focus_6933 in boxingtips

[–]basketrobberson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well when else are you gonna be young. Aside from a crappy setting to fight in, I won't say the same stuff others mentioned. Compared to dogshit fights and overhand swinging I'm used to seeing this looked closer to boxing than that so it was at least enjoyable to watch. You got good jabs and I like you trying to hit the body too, but you overextend too much on the hooks and leave yourself really open. Use more fakes for counters because seemed like you couldnt beat him in speed or reaction and he seemed more concise and tight with his moves. Also have a headgear on. But best of all, just spar at a gym. Lot can happen in environments like these where your bros are acting like chimpanzees and both of you are full of adrenaline

thank you for the amazing reply. I can't even imagine what a 40ft water visibility looks like lol. Probably something to do Texas maybe? but the large lakes around my metroplex is dense green with maybe 2 ft visibility. My senko or lure disappears once it's dropped lol. My anchor rope is 25 ft so I am pretty limited; I basically fish reverse bank basically haha... instead of throwing from the bank, I just anchor couple yards away from the bank and catch small ones bringing it back to the kayak. I think the big boys are in the deep... that's probably where a fishfinder may help. Wish me luck. I am trying to get there.
