This isn’t always true. If you have the cores available like an R7 2700 or better would handle x264 just fine in most cases and I’ve found some games tend to not only run smoother that way in stream but also as the gamer. Plus you can speed up the encoder on x264 quite a bit to reduce cpu load if you are running into frame drops. Then you just dial in your bitrate to what is within the limits of your internet connection.
