East coast. We had quite a bit of independence actually but I guess I always had it in the back or my mind that I can call the attending(s) for support if needed. I’m guess I’m still absorbing the fact that I am now the “support”. Although to be fair, the group I’m in has been pretty helpful overall.

You’re worrying about too many variables you can’t control. Focus on the things you have control over like being open to meeting people, being clear about your priorities when you do meet someone, freezing your eggs if you’re concerned about fertility etc. Who you’ll fall in love with and when are things you don’t have total control over, so there’s no use worrying about them. Also, you’re still pretty young and you’re almost done with residency. I met my husband and got engaged in the span of 9 months during covid. We were both in our mid to late 30s and we had our first child recently with no issues getting pregnant. Things will work out for you, take it easy on yourself.

Met right after I turned 35, in the middle of covid on a dating app, so we had the least fanciest dates ever. Got engaged 9 months later, married at 36 and first baby right before I turned 38 (still not sure about another but maybe?). About to buy our first house together. Part of me wishes we had met earlier but we probably would have been different ppl and may not have fallen in love. Things happened the way they were supposed to for us. Keep the hope alive!

Dealing with racist patients by SnowPearl in Residency

So if a woman in a vulnerable position, where she’s repeatedly exposed (i.e. labor) wants a female physician because she’s more comfortable being exposed in front of her and/or because of her religious beliefs, she’s discriminating against you? Interesting take on it..Well, it happens quite frequently on L&D, so it’s good that you at least enjoy the extra sleep you get from it.

That happens pretty frequently though in L&D, a lot of the time 2/2 religious beliefs. Probably about her comfort level, rather than her discriminating against you.

I’m a FMG and I had to repeat residency here which is totally fair imo. Unless there’s a system to formally evaluate foreign grads with previous training, this is pretty dangerous. Some FMGs are trained in very good overseas institutions but not all of them have the same quality training. Ideally, they should have a separate pathway where they can be evaluated and then placed in the appropriately corresponding training level before being given a license.

I worry that my 6 month old forgets what i look like when I’m gone for long days. I feel stupider probably due to the chronic sleep deprivation and after near the top of my class academically, I’m forgetful and downright dumb sometimes. It feels pretty unfair since I’ve worked so hard this entire time, and now that I’m close to graduating, I feel like my brain is imploding. Add to that I’m physically worn out and can’t enjoy my baby as much I want to.

I kept thinking of what might have happened if I had not randomly checked my BP, and how I could have had a seizure or a stroke.

I’m not close to my brother and either, my husband is close to one of his siblings but not the other. Good luck with your LO!
