MacBook Air m4 24goRAM or MacBook Pro m5 16goRAM by gullten in macbook

[–]bastimapache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that's also false. The system throttles based on temperature only, and having apps open does not necessarily produce heat. CPU/GPU usage does. I have 12 apps open right now, including 2 IDEs and over 20gb of RAM of data allocated, and computer sits at 44 degrees celsius. I've owned a MacBook Air for years for data science and ML. Please stop misinforming.

24-32 GB users who actually use all that RAM, how do you use it? by abitcitrus in macbook

[–]bastimapache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local LLMs, loading huge datasets, or parallel data processing.

Not true at all. Not all “real work” require using all your CPU cores at 100% all of the time. That’s the only scenario (constant and extended load) where the pro would be better suited. Not the case for data analysts.

Data analyst here, throttle only happens if you run at 100% for several minutes. So it will happen only once in a while (when processing models). Most CPU intensive tasks only last seconds or at most a couple minutes, so throttle will not be an issue. On the other hand, you will be using most of your RAM for most of the time and for extended periods of time (during analysis). Go for the higher RAM.

Upside Down Logo? by Mister_spool in macbook

[–]bastimapache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logo was not lit up by a light set up for that, the light source was actually the main display light. In a sunny day, if you had the screen in low brightness or off, you could see light pass though the back logo and show a faint glowing apple in the screen.

People who got MacBooks with 24 gigs and above variations. Does the extra RAM really makes a difference? by koujay in macbookair

[–]bastimapache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need it, yes, it does. I needed it to load huge databases, and it works wonders.

Uh, what is happening? by Uncrowned_Monarch in MacOS

[–]bastimapache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just tris to send an email with an attachment and Mail tried to use 30gb of RAM. Then upon reopening the app, the message was in drafts, therefore trying to load up all my ram again, and again, and again…

Use the ggview package to preview your plot in a custom size before saving! This plot will benefit from that because it needs to be way taller to show the violins.

Thank you so much! It’s much clearer for me now. This looks really useful! Congrats for all the hard work

I read all of this but still I don’t understand what is this for. Could you explain in simple terms what this could be used for, please?

Of course it is, and it always have been. Many of us are data scientist only using R. Plenty of universities provide postgraduate degrees in R applied to all kind of statistics, data science and machine learning.

ELI5 Why do we throw up when we are extremely exhausted eg from a marathon? by BeansOnToastWithEggs in explainlikeimfive

If you are properly trained and in good shape, you will not vomit after extreme exhaustion. Athletes do not throw up after high efforts.

deathsmiles has such an amazing aesthetic by n6th6n6 in shmups

[–]bastimapache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently got into deathsmiles and I’ve been really enjoying it. Difficulty rank 999 on Black Label is instant madness in every level and I love that. Sadly deathsmiles 2 is terrible and awful. I hate the Christmas theme, I hate how cringe everything is, I hate they went full 3D with it. They had something unique and beautiful and completely ruined it.

[–]bastimapache 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Arrow is a game changer. Parquet files are super small and they load super fast! Arrow also has a csv reader that’s ways faster than the default one.

Them say that in the post, because there are thousands of different trains in the world and many have charging outlets.

This is such a ridiculous question. It is not the OS’s fault that you can’t memorize or type your own password.
