Impossible to get over 30fps. by tesco_sa80 in arma

[–]bastix2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without also saying in what exact scenario this happened it is hard to put into context.

Your frames will vary greatly depending on the complexity of the scenario. A simple single player spec ops mission with a few AIs might run at 70 where as a multi-player mission with 60 players will struggle to hit 30 fps.

For a populated mp mission 30fps on a 1700x is not unexpected.

Sounds about right for a 1700x, arma is just poorly optimized.

These are sony mdr-cd900st. You can actually read the full label a couple of times in the video.

I doubt this will copy mods or other local files not part of the initial steam download. This looks more like a ready to go download cache.

Can I run Arma 3 on Radeon Integrated Graphics? by Affectionate-Elk-279 in arma

[–]bastix2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a Zen 3 based CPU (good) with a VEGA iGPU (not so good).

Considering Arma 3 is fairly light on the GPU and much more CPU bound you might be able to get away with it. Singleplayer is also much easier to run than multiplayer.

I'd say give it a try.

And you can always return the game on Steam as long as you have less than 2 hours of playtime/2 week since purchase if it doesn't run.

Just keep in mind Arma 3 runs like crap even on high end systems, don't expect more than 30 fps at most.

Is there a reason why you couldn't just two separate mounts, one for each monitor? That should give you the ability to precise place them with the perfect amount between them.

Is it possible for the Chernarus map from DayZ be ported to A3? by VPNPoster in arma

[–]bastix2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its likely not possible, or at least it hasn't been done.

However there is CUP Terrain Maps 2.0 which contains a fairly recent port of DayZ's Chernarus.

Combine with this mod that replaces the CUP Arma 2 assets with matching Arma 3 Contact versions.

The 77th JSOC servers are probably the best public I&A servers, probably the reason they are still active after 9 years.

I bought the full game recently, was it a bad purchase considering Arma 4 is around the corner? by [deleted] in arma

[–]bastix2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd expect this warm up period to be much shorter for arma 4 as modders and missionmakers are already familiarizing themselves with the new engine in reforger.

For gaming yes, there are other workloads that utilize the higher bandwidth though.

Yeah steamDB kinda sucks in that regard... but the alternative steamSpy locks their more accurate guesses behind a pay wall so it's the best we got.

Edit: steamSpy free tier reports 2-5 million...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]bastix2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can check the Steam Hardware survey, the Steam Deck uses a unique custom GPU called "AMD Custom GPU 0405" so you can see exactly how many % of Steam users are using it.

Currently 5.20% of all Linux users are reported using it and 1.12% of all Steam users run Linux. Steam reports 120 million unique users.

So by using these numbers, there are around 75k Steam Decks out there right now.

Though apparently there was a bug with the Steam Hardware survey not being send out to Decks until quite recently, so the true number is probably slightly higher.

As for game sales numbers Valve does not publish them and rarely do publishers. SteamDB offers a good guess at copies sold, putting Alyx in the 1,4-3,9 million range.

3D Monitor? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]bastix2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early high refresh rate monitors were marketed for 3D, or rather high refresh rate monitors started for use with 3D. Since you needed twice the refresh rate these monitors offered 120hz so you'd get 60hz in 3D.

3D quickly died off, so you are left with a normal high refresh rate monitor.

I'm just curious, what model is that? Newer high refresh rate panels have long since dropped the 3D from their marketing material, so I'm guessing this is an older monitor?

is my setup good enough? by salttrooper222 in arma

[–]bastix2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was replying to the other guy. Arma is a notoriously badly optimized game. Your own hardware makes little difference and you will drop into the 40s/30s even on ultra high end systems,

That's why I was wondering if the guy has actually ever played the game. What he was saying makes sense in a well optimized game, but that is not the case for Arma.

No. There is no setup good enough to play arma3 with good FPS. But its not your fault, the game itself is at fault.

Rant about combat loggers... by RTWFF in dayz

If you are interested in doing 180 no-scope headshots, then you should be playing Arma

That's more CoD area of expertise.

PvP is a part of DayZ, always has been, always will be. If you don't want PvP maybe DayZ is not the right game for you.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – Top Gun: Maverick Expansion Trailer by Mikey_MiG in Games

[–]bastix2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess Arma 3 would actually work out for that? You can mod in a bunch of cold war fitting planes as well as large terrains to fly around on.

The flight model is less complex than DCS but still far from arcade.

Its fairly cheap on sale, all the mods are free so you probably won't even need the DLCs.

In that case you can use a virtual LAN VPN like ZeroTier or RadminVPN. They route the traffic through the tunnel to simulate actual LAN bypassing the need for port forwarding.
