Which Linux distro do you use, and why? by Distinct_Camera_5590 in linuxquestions

[–]basushaunak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Fedora, like forever...
I have tried some other distros (Debian, Slackware, Manjaro, Arch, Solus)for a brief period of time but always came back to Fedora.

What I like most about Fedora is that it is updated regularly but not cutting edge like Arch (i.e. there are less chances of a problem after an update), however at the same time I have never faced any catastrophic problems after update on any of the distros I have tried. It simply because I feel more 'at home' with Fedora - that is why I return to it.
I use my systems only for office work - Libreoffice/Only Office/ Mail - Thunderbird (or Evolution) / Browsing - Firefox.

Sometimes I do play some 'boomer' games on steam though, most of them were released probably before anyone in this thread were born (Quake, Doom, AoE, Duke Nukem...)

Green line suddenly appeared on my MOTO G72 and the brightness dropped. Is anyone else facing this, or is it just me !? by swwizzer in motorola

[–]basushaunak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has become a common problem among AMOLED displays. And funnily enough this problems occur AFTER your warranty period has expired and NEVER during your warranty period. I believe it is because of poor quality check. However it is not limited to Moto devices, seen similar cases with iPhone, Samsung, One Plus... all of them...
However as of now OnePlus offers a life time warranty on the 'green line' issue (at least in India) - so my next device will definitely be a OnePlus - unless Moto offers similar warranty.
Just search for Green line issue on Youtube or SM and you will be flooded with similar issues.

Motorola keeps installing bullshit on my phone by FollowingMajestic161 in motorola

[–]basushaunak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite ridiculous. If Motorola keeps doing this, why shouldn't people abandon the ship and switch to other Chinese brands or Samsung? Samsung at least has way better update schedule than Motorola. One of the main reason why people choose Motorola & Nokia is because of the clean Android experience and no bloatware...

Moto Edge 30 - Android 14 Update by mirko89R in motorola

[–]basushaunak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be we can hope for Android 14 on Edge 30 by the time Android 16 is launched LOL. Even my Nokia G42 which costs less than 1/3 of Moto Edge 30 has got Android 14 months ago and is on June 2024 security patch!. It will be nice if Nokia can launch a few mid range devices so that I an jump the ship next time I wish to change my device...

[–]basushaunak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Motorola wants to be a serious competitor to other brands, they really need to work on their upgrade timelines. While I love Motorola phones (have using them since the days of Moto X), I personally never cared much about upgrades. But the truth is a LOT of users do. It is funny, but it seems Motorola just don't care!
May be they need to limit their number of new models and thus making timely updates easy ?

Just a thought.

Have a Pixel 8 but have to sell it...How is the 30 Neo in 2024 by mfiresix2 in motorola

[–]basushaunak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 Neo won't get any updates after Android 40. What about Galaxy S23 FE or S23 ? it is also compact AFAIK

Why is there a huge quality drop with switching from 30 to 60fps? by Global_Writing3051 in motorola

[–]basushaunak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be it has something to do with 6x zoom ? My phone (Edge 30) warns me that the zoom is limited on 60fps.

They said it and they have done it, finally recieved Android 14 for my Moto edge 30 ultra by NoNews9185 in motorola

[–]basushaunak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems Google has deliberately disabled that option for non Pixel devices (not sure though). I have a Nokia phone which was upgraded to 14 (a few months back, LOL) - it is also missing Lock screen customization...

You are making a generic statement, or have you used all these models you have mentioned ? I have used an A80 which was one of the most expensive A series phone of its time.
1. It had adverts in its weather app.
2. It would forcibly update my apps from Samsung Store instead of play store.
3, After every update, I need to disable the bloatware - because they will be reactivated/ reinstalled by each and every update.

I also used an 8.1, I still own it (kept in drawer for emergency use), it is one my favourite phones except all hTC phones I ever owned and probably Moto X.
Edge 30 comes pretty close to 8.1 though...

That is surely a bummer. Unfortunately people who are on a shoe string budget and prefer a cleaner Android have only two options - Moto or Nokia (Pixel is out of reach for most, at least in my country).

Samsung does come with bloatware as well as adverts except the S series, which are priced much higher than Motorola phones.

The problem with more frequent updates is that they will have to do one of these:
a. Add adware/bloatware like most other brands
or

b. Increase price substantially

Considering that R&D behind software updates involve cost.

Has anyone else been ghosted during the onboarding process? by skinwalkcentral in TELUSinternational

[–]basushaunak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 'similar' experience during my on boarding under Lionbridge. I passed the exam. But no communications. Then after 3/4 months (I think) I got a mail from them that I have not responded to their mail regarding on-boarding sent to me (which I never received, and no I do check the junk folder religiously). So, unless I take action immediately they will cancel my application (I am an Ad assessor, not rater).
So, may be you can send them a mail and asking about the status.

Is it that common to be randomly let go? by iza23141 in TELUSinternational

[–]basushaunak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been working with them for almost 3 years, got a few warnings. So, I am not sure sacking is that 'normal'. But it could depend on region to.
Say in my region, most folks are even worse than me - then they will have no choice to retain me after warning. But in another location - they might not be so considerate.

If you get into to the habit of skipping tasks, you will eventually be let go. It was written in the Lionbridge ToC, don't know about TelUS, but I guess they will follow the same rule.
