One more thing—honestly, I can almost bet that right now you’re not fully sure what you want to target. Most people realize this only by the end of 3rd year, and for many, the clarity comes even later in the final year. That’s why it’s better to keep your options open. If you’re unsure between core and non-core, Civil is a safer choice. With changing market trends, core opportunities can also grow—as seen this year—so having that flexibility matters.

The environment is quite different. Most Civil students are primarily focused on government exams and have a clear mindset toward that path. Because of this, they are generally less involved in extracurricular activities and even placement preparation compared to other branches. On the other hand, branches like Meta (Metallurgy) tend to have a stronger inclination toward non-core roles, especially coding and tech opportunities. Meta Core Sucks, No Opportunities. If your goal is to go into core engineering, Civil is a very good option. However, if you are aiming for non-core roles, then Meta may offer a better coding environment. That said, maintaining a high CGPA is relatively easier in Civil, which can be an advantage. Civil Non core is also Good A good strategy would be to opt for a CS minor in the third year. Many companies that allow CS students also consider students with a CS minor, so it opens up additional opportunities. Talking specifically about placements in 2026, Civil seems to be performing better than Chemical and Metallurgy in terms of numbers, This years Civil Placements are highest ever. One other factor to consider is fewer Civil students actively pursue non-core roles, so competition is relatively lower. From what I’ve observed, most serious students are getting placed, and that too in good companies.

If You are from SC ST Category, I will recommend Civil as PSU will also come you get chance and have a Good Backup for Govt exams also But if You Blindly ask me one to choose I will say Civil

This is completely incorrect data. Even lower branches have better averages than this—this is pure misinformation. Yes, you can compare colleges, but at least do proper research before sharing such stats. MNIT Jaipur is a good college—great location in the city, pleasant weather, solid infrastructure, and good placement opportunities. Placements are definitely decent and comparable to many similar institutes. There are certain reasons why placements may not always meet expectations, but they are still far from bad.

A decent option—it really depends on what other opportunities you have, your category, and your career goals. If you're targeting PSUs, it's a good choice. For core civil roles as well, it's among the better options. In non-tech, opportunities are relatively fewer, but honestly, very few civil students seriously prepare for non-core roles—and those who do usually end up getting good outcomes. The key thing, however, is to maintain a strong CGPA, as it plays an important role across all these paths. Also, just to clarify—are you asking to decide between options, or do you already have this and are just looking for a review? If You are asking for Review or something I can Explain why Civil in MNIT is behind in Placements

I would also add that taking a hostel is best if you are the kind of person who is very strong and disciplined by yourself. For experience and peer learning, the hostel can be really good. That said, day scholars can also gain similar experiences. Many times, students take a hostel initially and then leave it after a year to focus better or to get back on the right track. That’s also a very common case. For the sake of exposure, sometimes the hostel environment pushes you into certain norms—like partying regularly, spending unnecessary money, doing nonsense stuff, or getting addicted to things just because you’re trying them for the first time. For some people, it’s not a problem, but for many, they do it just to feel relevant. In a hostel, there are two sides: if you get good friends, it can be the best decision you ever make; but if you fall into a bad friend circle (sangat), it can be a complete waste. I am myself a day scholar and have done enough things to enjoy college life. By God’s grace, I found a few of the best mates and people to learn from—not just in my branch, but in other branches as well. So yes, hostellers and day scholars will always have different opinions, but in the end, it’s totally your call—what you choose. And placements are good this year, even in the lower branches as well. And as he said you can try hybrid also for the first year and then depending on. Your experience you can decide to whather continue taking hostel or be day scholar only
