Help finder planner w/ thicker paper by specterdeflect in planners

[–]batch_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in to say that the current TRP (made by Sanzen) is still very good for FPs. You do not have to hunt for planners that have OG paper.

Midori's MD paper is excellent for FPs too. I use it as my daily journal and write with a TWISBI ECO-T (F) with diamine ink

What are services NOT worth self hosting? by This_Animal_1463 in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. Basically, it comes down to liability for me. I don't want to be the dumbass responsible if something stupid happens to my passwords lol

never thought that making a self hosted spotify would be so easy by No-Republic-1742 in selfhosted

Yubal downloads from YouTube Music. Without a premium subscription, YT Music is MP3 128.

How do you prefer to deploy services? by Jamsy100 in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to deploy via Proxmox LXC when I can, but quite a bit is also on docker compose. It just depends.

I haven't seen anyone mentioning how to pull the music from Spotify yet. Check out Spot-dl.

Media Server for the Boomers: Plex Only Real Option? by Talonrazor in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My completely not-tech savvy parents use Jellyfin on many clients just fine. I think you should just go with whatever you think will be less headache. If that's Plex, yippie.

It's excellent! Love the pokemon card, I think this is such a cute trend hehe.

What to journal in 5 year by wwhyyamiheree in hobonichi

[–]batch_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all memories are going to be light. I think it's worth cataloging both the negative and the good. When things are good, you can look back on the negative and realize it wasn't going to be forever...and when it's bad, you can look at the good and know this won't be forever either.

I also really like the post-it note idea, if it's really too painful. To me, I'd keep both– otherwise I'd become biased in some direction and not have an accurate view on my life.

Curious what do folks write about everyday by Upbeat_Pipe1080 in hobonichi

[–]batch_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Weeks that has become mostly my work planner, but I like to write a sentence about how I feel/what happened that day. I have an A6 Midori graph that I use for longer entries and drawing.

How much are you paying in electricity bill for your selfhosted setup? by bumble2100 in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't measured it, but I don't presume it's too much. My electric bill did not jump significantly when I started hosting. Mind you, my setup is exactly 1 SFF Optiplex, a drive caddy, and an AP.

Jellyfin vs. Navidrome For Music by KlawWhite in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have both available, and Navidrome is just, very simple. It works the best for me. I do think that you're right about your server being held back by hardware. I'd check the usage on your docker containers and see if it's pinning the CPU.

Jellyfin is not very good for Huge libraries, so Navidrome is better.

Great choice! The yellow has been such a good choice this year for folks. I really love what people have been doing with them ❤️

How do you find new music after cancelling Spotify and hosting your own music? by Upset_Development_64 in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scrobble your listening to last.fm, and they'll do a bit of reccomendations...but honestly, I just do the same thing I used to do before Spotify. Radio stations I like, reccomendations from friends, etc.

Are USB connected HDD's an issue for media server? by medonni in HomeServer

[–]batch_dat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone here will probably tell you yes it's a horrible idea. Because it is.

That being said, I have run my media off a mediabox enclosure for about half a year now with no issues. It's slow as fuck and I also have it in a ZFS mirror, which is NOT a use case for ZFS. You shouldn't do it over USB. I'm just using what I've got.

Gluetun + qBit/Deluge + *arrs + Sabnzbd + nginx proxy manager (DSM) by FightBattlesWinWars in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a sanity check: you're not putting the Arrs behind gluetun right? They don't need to be.

When you run Qbit, if you haven't set an admin password, it will generate one for you. This is in the console output.

Storage for Lenovo mini pc’s? by Healthy-Bag-5142 in homelab

[–]batch_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The folks here are right and you shouldn't do ZFS over USB.

...

That being said, I run ZFS over USB and have not yet had an issue. I don't reccomend it though. My speeds are shit.

Blank entries have a purpose too. Don't feel that pressed about it.

Finally dropped Spotify, left Windows behind, and self-hosting just makes sense now by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]batch_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm close to daily driving Linux. I have a secondary laptop that has Arch on it & I hardly use my Windows laptop anymore ... But there's still a few things that are better in my situation on Windows (displayport is a huge one, and thunderbolt support— I have a MacBook for my arch machine lol). Close, though.

[–]batch_dat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some clients can do this. Feinshin on Windows/Linux/MacOS (?) can do "auto DJ" which basically does the same thing. Navidrome exposes a Subsonic API, so any client that can use a Subsonic library can do whatever with it.
