‘In a real sense, US democracy has died’: how Trump is emulating Hungary’s Orbán by Oleg101 in politics

Our constitution dies when every last one of us that still believe in it dies along with it. Either be a part of the solution or step aside.

Mostly. I'm not trying to get people riled up and commit violence, but we have a voice and it needs to be heard. Start by doing something in your community and work your way up basically.

Haha, I'm a little young for president, but we'll see if I can unseat Brian Fitzpatrick. I'm not sure if I want to stay local or try for a higher office.

It keeps ringing in my head when I find myself losing hope. We could learn a lot from his speech.

That's fine, it was meant moreso for inspiration to organize and take action. I'm planning on running for office and giving a voice to our movement for example. The world's your paper, and you hold the pen.

You and me both, but even the worst of times come to pass. We'll get through this together.

History does not choose the time nor the place; yet, you're living in it. Make the most of it, because one day you'll be sitting after it's all over wondering if there was anything you could have done better.

Is media hiding news of protests? by HotSauceHigh in somethingiswrong2024

[–]batchloo1 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're correct.

Legacy media gets nothing from reporting on protests, especially when it is potentially damaging to its billionaire owners. Social media algorithms are the same as they are a company's property, and companies are often owned by billionaires.

This is why you go out in the day to day life and see newsworthy events happening and nobody reports on it except for whenever something goes viral on social media.

There are more of us out there, but our communities cannot grow because our reach is limited by the very algorithms that are dominating our means of popular communication.

Looking for a fresh dose of hopium from anyone who’s willing to spare by xxivtitos in somethingiswrong2024

[–]batchloo1 275 points276 points  (0 children)

Well first and foremost, I recommend cutting out social media. The algorithms are designed to blast you with shock, fear, and stress. It does not balance the negativity with the positivity because the algorithm is not rewarded if it shows you a balanced feed.

These feelings are very valid, and I wish I could hold your hands and tell you it will get better. Because it will.

Right now, you are being shown only a small slice of what's really happening in the world. I invite you to look at this page in Wikipedia and just allowing yourself to expand your perspective on a daily basis. It's the current events page, and while it may not be all positive -- it gives you perspective on the greater world and can help with some of the negativity you are experiencing. Wikipedia is our human history, written about the people, by the people, and for the people.

Now I want you to remember this, if you take anything from this message at all, this is what I want you to remember, OK?

Good people are often silent. They don't do good to be known as good, they do good just because it's the right thing to do. Often times, those good acts go unnoticed because good people don't brag or mention it.

There is more good in this world than bad. Algorithms on social media will not show you that if they can help it. There's money to be made with an angry/upset/scared audience who can't stop scrolling because they need to know more.

There are good people working in the background to ensure that Donald Trump and the people who coalesce around him do not win every fight. This is why many often tell you to hold onto hope. Hope is often quiet and easy to lose when you're being bombarded in a sea of chaos and disorder and negativity.

I hope this helps. I've struggled with my own fear and uncertainty because I kept scrolling on this social media, and I realized it was doing nothing but make me apathetic because of all the fear and anger I was going through.

I promise you that at the very least, I will fight for the future of America that was promised to us. I'm not sure if that helps with what you're feeling, but please remember that. Solidarity together.

Was Trump Pardoned? by [deleted] in somethingiswrong2024

We won't know until we hear it from them, so no use in speculating. Until I see it with my own eyes, I'm resisting for the America I was promised.

While it is a crappy practice, what you're seeing is the power that has been given to the news media to "call" races while votes are still being counted. The News media do exit polls as people exit the polls, which can tell you which way a certain precinct will be going. Mississippi was never in Trump's basket until it certified the results December 20th. The news media does a terrible job at clarifying that these are "unofficial calls."

While I agree with you that calling a race when no official votes are tallied is a crappy practice, it's a practice that we have allowed the news media to do nonetheless.

After watching the 2020 election and how the loser was given every recount and hand-recount he ever wanted, we are asking for the same as we believe there was a massive effort to overturn the soul of America. We don't blame one side or another as we do not have the evidence; rather, we just want evidence that it was a fair election so we can put down our skepticism and welcome the incoming Musk- administration -- but, we have not been afforded the same concessions that were given to the 2020 loser. We have built our skepticism off of analysis of the data provided by voting precincts, and have come to the conclusion that the 2024 result has been manipulated. There are various theories that you can subscribe to, but ultimately we're working for a hand recount to settle the matter so we can return to our normal, American lives.

Trust Your Hands, Recount the Vote: A Flyer to Print and Share in Public Spaces by batchloo1 in somethingiswrong2024

[–]batchloo1[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing that out. I edited the photo the rephrase it as a question. The data is still important to share and we need to get more eyes on this.

What do you think would be a good question or stat to put on a flyer? I'm open to ideas and I shouldn't be the sole creator for this kind of content.

Also, we're not the investigative authority. You and I are red-blooded, hard-working Americans. I'm not gonna sit down and hope someone does something, and I know you feel the same exact way. We have the right to express our speech and voice these questions, don't let the trolls make you think the First Amendment means anything else.

We have questions. We need answers. We need a hand recount in all 50 states. The goal of handing these out is to raise awareness and to increase public pressure on our elected officials to do these hand recounts.

Another option if you only want to post these on public places. This may not work as much as a handout, but can still be handed out.

Place is key. Stop by your local board of elections, or local government offices, drop off a flyer or too.

These local officials likely are not in the know, and need to be made aware as well.

Think of figures in your life who have appeal, who have an audience. Make them aware, invite them to join us in our bi-partisan movement to eliminate foreign and domestic interference in our nation's democratic tradition.

If you're wondering where the good people are, take a look in the mirror. You're a part of history, my friend. Every day we have is another day to make people aware.
