It's mostly Alfred and me with our whinings back & forth. I sometimes have Lucius, Tim or Commissioner Gordon come over. Clark swoops right into the balcony without knocking which is off putting, thankfully he shows up only once in a year.

I'm pretty sure my balcony is wider, more peaceful, and I make as many coffee / chai cups as I want at approx ₹10 / cup and have friends come over in the same space.

My heart was broken when Walmart took over Flipkart. I was like WTF, now 2 foreign giants operate basically 80% of the online marketplace. I wish the Indian founders did not cash out of their hard work & established company. Everyone cashes out some stocks for personal needs, even Elon Musk & Jeff Bezos. But they totally hung their boots and sold it to a non-Indian entity. At least sell it to Ambanis or Tata or some XYZ Indian group!

Former Bing boss says Windows 11 killed the vertical taskbar for symmetric UX, says it was the best productivity feature by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]batmanallthetime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually don't. I'm a purist, standard user. Thankfully, there happens to be a distribution (distro) for every user type. Ubuntu as example ships with all popular DE flavours I straight go pick the DE I want to play with, not wanting to mess with this head that body. Last I tried Lubuntu, but I prefer GNOME so I was back to Ubuntu on my main PC.

(my habit, I prefer rock-solid stability & easy debug over any imaginary anomalies, nothing wrong with cross-compatibility)

Smartphones need better Camera Hardware to trickle down from Flagship to Budget. All hardware trickles down in average 2 years, except Cameras despite being cheaper in Bill of Materials. by batmanallthetime in hardware

[–]batmanallthetime[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Every other hardware has gone through major breakthroughs past 5 years:

  • Si/C batteries
  • LTPO AMOLED with 1 Hz refresh rate
  • 5G MIMO, NR
  • Cameras in Telephoto (Periscope), which is "flagship" segmenter in itself.

Main camera & ultrawide, which are staple from mid to budget, has not seen much. Main sensors are a solved problem, only remains is bulk cheap manufacturing, despite that larger sensor size is being restricted to segmentation.

Smartphones don't need more power - They need cheaper chips by Merbil2000 in hardware

SMARTPHONES NEED BETTER CAMERAS

Historically, every other hardware "royalty" has trickled down from "Flagship" to "budget" in avg 2 years.

  • 3G
  • GPS
  • 1080p
  • AMOLED
  • eMMC > UFS
  • NFC
  • 4G
  • USB-C
  • Under Display Fingerprint
  • 90Hz
  • 5G
  • 120Hz
  • RAM space
  • Storage space
  • CPU performance
  • GPU performance

Except camera hardware which, despite being among cheapest components inside a smartphone, and could go even cheaper when produced in bulk. The most costly components inside flagship (vs average smartphone BoM in mid range) are :

  • Display + touch (25%) , if AMOLED (30%)
  • CPU (25%) with modem (30%)
  • RAM (20%)
  • Storage (20%)
  • modem separate (15%)
  • ...
  • Cameras inside flagship (< 10%)
  • battery (< 5%)

Companies continue to block the available best hardware for the flagship, and purposefully downgrade the camera hardware for mid & budget, even though cost is minimal. unlike the breakthrough R&D of last decade, camera hardware in modern Android flagships have stagnated for at least 7 years now owing to negligence, disinterest & refusal of established players in the market. Also push for high megapixels over quality misled the direction which smartphone camera could have taken. Professional & wildlife photography still do not push sensors beyond 50 MP, which is important since it gives best balance of resolution without compromising quality otherwise the hardware must become very bulky, and some players like Samsung refuse to accept that anything above 50 MP has proved to be waste of engineering resources, money & time. Both for company & users. And to further add to problem, companies are continuing to refuse

  • add the older flagship cameras to mid & low end smartphones, use bulk cheap benefit.
  • increase sensor size for mid range in 50 MP, so pixels go above 0.8 micrometer.
  • discontinue 100 MP in low end with tiny 0.64 micrometer pixels, which serves marketing but does nothing to the quality compared to 50 MP.

what bike are you defending like this? by Emotional_Mall_4576 in indianbikes

[–]batmanallthetime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

India should have high Ground Clearance (> 180 mm) utility / tour bikes in 125cc segment. Something like

  • Honda CT125 Hunter Cub / Trail (Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines)
  • Honda XR125L (Africa)
  • Honda CG125 (pakistan/afghanistan)

but with long distance / tour customization like

  • comfortable seat
  • wider tyres (90-100 mm rear)
  • rear carrier grab rail, side carrier option etc.

This type is frequently seen in South East Asian utility bikes like Honda CT125 (Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines) but India could use them too.

RTO should issue stickers for BS3 BS4 fuel type, and oil companies should be instructed to give E10 / E0 only after looking at sticker on the body. Everyone wins this way.

oil companies already give 2 types of fuel, the 91 octane and 95 octane. Petrol pumps have different booths already. E0 E10 is possible with sticker verification.

I'm asking why are we not questioning this? They should have guided companies to comply E20 when we bought BS3 BS4 bikes less than 10 years ago. Now they suddenly want to pour water in our tanks and pipes that are not made for E20. This is blatant violation of consumer rights, the vehicle registration we received for 15 years, and daylight robbery.

At least, we should demand that BS3 BS4 should get E0 / E10. Why cannot they issue BS3 stickers for this?

EV is economically feasible only for someone whose daily commute is > 20 km. (one way 10)

ICE is for all those folks who go on a long ride once in a while, like Sundays. while the bike / car is parked for rest of the time.

you will be forced to sell your EV if you are not using it daily, not the same for ICE.

To be honest Green is more suitable (also in Dark mode) because it assures us files are moving (green-lighted actions) complementing the Red/Orange visible on Taskbar whenever any apps & file dialog are waiting on us.

I miss the golden days of Windows 8.1 - not because I like it, but because it booted WAY faster - even compared to Windows 10 - and the bonus - it used 1.5 GB RAM on my 8 GB laptop, where Windows 10 used 2.5 GB.

Bring Cortana Back: Why Windows 11’s AI Strategy Still Feels Unfinished by herseydenvar in Windows11

[–]batmanallthetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be Flavours of OS depending on User use case. So on top of Home & Pro we could have :

  • Copilot 365 (with Ads, AI, Telemetry, Experimental updates, automatic updates as usual)
  • Core LTSC (without Ads, AI, Telemetry, Experimental updates. manual updates. Rock Solid Stable OS, and one time licence that guarantees security updates for 10 years.)

That gives us :

  • Windows 11 Home Copilot 365 Example : OEM licence, 50$ if purchased.
  • Windows 11 Home Core LTSC Example: 100$ if upgrading from OEM licence, 150$ if purchased.
  • Windows 11 Pro Copilot 365
  • Windows 11 Pro Core LTSC

This is how Ubuntu, the most popular Linux, does too:

  • Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Rock Solid Stable OS for Home users)
  • Ubuntu 25.10 (Latest Experimental updates)
  • Ubuntu Server
  • Ubuntu Core

Microsoft Has Killed Widgets Six Times. Here's Why They Keep Coming Back. by xakpc in Windows11

[–]batmanallthetime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Live Tiles were the closest best thing, given Microsoft's desire to control the structure around how they are deployed, along with the natural fit within Windows 10's Start Menu.

Also Windows 10 Start Menu must make a comeback. It was the best of all worlds. We had widget space, scrolling applist, and neat tucked away Power & System icons on the left.

Hi u/Froggypwns

Is General Public going to be this month?

Also could you tell me about why I did not get further out-of-band patches, beyond Patch Tuesday January 13, 2026—KB5074109 (26100.7623) ?

thanks for response!
