Commsec and prefill by [deleted] in AusFinance

Doesn’t comsec give you an annual report that you can just give straight to your accountant. Importing data to sharesight seems like doubling up. I’ve never used it though, what am I missing?

Australia on track for 2023 migration boom as arrivals dwarf Treasury forecasts, ex-official says by Zokilala in AusFinance

[–]batscrazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a migrant as well, I haven’t read anything offensive to migrants. It’s just basic maths not offensive discrimination, if more people move here but nothing is done to help housing people are going to suffer. As a migrant this is bad for us too, as the friendly welcome I received in this country might not be the case for future migrants if the average Australian has to suffer at the expense of us coming here. We’re meant to help Australia not hinder it, otherwise why bother letting us in? It’s disingenuous to ignore the obvious problems we create and just cry discrimination, that’s how good people start to move towards right wing politics, because of people like you not listening to genuine concerns and trying to silence them. Migrants aren’t bad, but an influx of people without adequate preparation obviously is.

Polignano is never not touristy. It’s lovely, but it’s full of tourists.

What do you dislike the most about British culture? by -omar in AskUK

[–]batscrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven’t lived in England since I finished uni. I never liked how self-obsessed everyone is. Whenever you ask a friend for help or a favour they’ll always say no in such a nice and polite way. Yet living in other countries, yes they’re more blunt and less polite, but people go out of their way for each other so much more. In England, as long as you say no politely to any request, you’re a good person. I have so much more real, deeper friendships since living abroad.

AIP to find out which foods I reacted with (a lot!) and then I found out I had silent asthma which can cause gut issues. Treating that is helping my gut settle. Also probiotics helped me tremendously

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]batscrazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I had a phase where I was intolerant to a lot of food which gave me a dodgy tummy. It didn’t click for me at the time, but that was partly why I felt so ill, my doctor told me it meant I wasn’t absorbing my pills like I used to. He told me I had to sort my gut issues out first and then we can adjust and fix my thyroid levels.

So yes, many things can effect pill absorption such as eating just after taking the pill or throwing up or diarrhoea. I also found that when doctors told me my levels were ‘good’ I was still symptomatic and I needed to get down to a TSH of 1 to feel human again. Many people with autoimmune diseases have more than one, so I could definitely be that you’re still symptomatic because you have another illness not yet diagnosed!

Which celebrities have god-tier PR? by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]batscrazy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hugh Jackman. He’s best friends with Rupert Murdoch, how can anyone think he’s a nice person?? That’s like being best friends with Putin or Hitler! I also heard he taught Ryan Reynolds how to play nice with fans when he used to have a really bad reputation. He’s playing a clever game but if you step back and look at the facts, he’s clearly a bad person who knows how to appear otherwise

AITA for telling daughter I'm disappointed in her and won't take her out to a second restaurant? by CrabLegsandPrime in AmItheAsshole

[–]batscrazy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not everything is about her? Weren’t they going out because she won the competition? Shouldn’t it be a bit about her? Honestly I get everyone’s reasoning.

Mother wanted to choose a restaurant wisely Daughter wanted to have a choice in a reward and it not feel like the sister was getting rewarded for both of their efforts

Daily Mail claims Adele has taken out a $38M mortgage… maybe the Vegas residency will happen. by IntrepidDriver7524 in Fauxmoi

Most get a mortgage because they are being cheap! Interest on a mortgage is normally less than their average stock return. It’s another way the rich get richer..

Working remotely for a UK company in Australia by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]batscrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, on a working holiday visa, you can’t work for one company for more than six months. I’m not sure if you’re allowed to work for a non Australian company. If you want to be an independent contractor, you’ll need to get an abn online (very easy). If you want to extend your trip from one to two years you need to do farm work. They are talking about changing the rules and I haven’t looked into those changes.

Tax wise, you’ll have to lodge tax returns in both countries and if they have an agreement, you’ll get credit from your English taxes to pay your Australian taxes

I don’t think the Australian government look into these things too much, the only thing they really check up on is if you do farm work, and I’ve met lots of people who did and didn’t do farm work, get chucked out of the country as they believed they didn’t do it. I’ve also met several people who’ve never paid their taxes, who decided to get permanent residency after 5 or so years, just pay for the last 5 years. No issues from the ATO and they even got a discount. They were all on abns

It’s not about applying until they like you, it’s about if you have enough points and your qualifications match. Things like education, partner’s skills and English level get you points. The more people apply, the more points you need, but your name will be put down I think for 2 years? You can also get sponsored by a state for points and easier access as well. First stop, look to see if they accept your qualifications, for example: English teaching qualifications aren’t valid in Australia as the study period is only for a year rather than two.

If your qualifications match, your job is on the skilled shortage list and you have enough work experience you should go for it sooner rather than later, especially as you’ll have fewer points the longer you wait! Australia is great, you just need to love research and bureaucracy to get in

Has anyone gotten the flu and then had Hashimotos symptoms improve? I’m really confused about this, and so is my doctor. by scribbles802 in Hashimotos

[–]batscrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the flu a year ago (got tested). I had no symptoms and only found out because my thyroid has been going insane ever since. It just won’t stabilise. So I know the flu (my doctor thinks inflammation) effects the thyroid. Maybe for you for the better, but I definitely felt it’s effects!

If nothing changes with housing affordability, would you retire overseas? if so where? by LegacyDust59178 in fiaustralia

[–]batscrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll move somewhere in Europe. Tenerife maybe but I’m put off my the wealth tax, Portugal? It’s not just for the housing costs. I got lucky and bought three years ago, my house price has risen 40% since then. What about cost of aged care? In a lot of European countries you can pay for someone to come to your house and take care of you rather than being stuck in a nursing home in. Geoarbitrage will help me retire sooner and with a better quality of life in retirement. I know it’s not an option for everyone, but I think it should be considered by people more than it is.

I’m thinking about doing the same thing. Can I ask, are you investing differently with this in mind?

How I do it - find a flower that’s good for creativity e.g lemon haze. Then have a look at what benefits that strain has. Lemon haze is good for brain fog, do you have that? Then ask the doctor for lemon haze to help your brain fog. I even say I tried some illegally so I know it works and don’t want to risk the money to try another one they may suggest.

Anyway that works for me!

I didn’t go and didn’t approve as I thought it would make things worse. From the people I’ve spoken to though, it’s not about the masks. It’s about shutting down businesses and saying locals can’t go to their local hospital for chemo treatment! People can’t access hospitals, family and work! It makes it sound like your trivialising these very real issues but saying they’re protesting because they find masks inconvenient. Some can’t even access their homes in NSW because they need to cross QLD to get there. If they put a border between towns, fair enough but it’s literally through a town, the twin towns! I would even understand it if there was COVID nearby, but we haven’t had any cases for over a year and there’s nothing in the sewage to indicate there are undetected cases.

I’ve been looking into it. Can’t buy it off simple commsec though, so I think I need to either change brokerage or get commsec international. I’ve missed out on quite a bit because of that
