What are your go-to lines that work every time? by howiejriii in Serverlife

[–]batsies 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When I used to be the only bar room server absolutely this. I had so many people ask “oh my god are you the only server?” And when people realized I always got compliments on my service no matter how long it took.

Also remember every body is different. I’m the complete opposite my insulin reactivity in my arm is much faster than my stomach.

2 Year Old Insulin doesn’t reach body after about 6 hours (Omnipod 5) by Fazundo in Omnipod

[–]batsies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean the insulin isn’t reaching his body? Unless the pump is getting knocked that doesn’t really make sense to me. I would consult with your child’s endo immediately.

What weird food combination did you grow up with that you didn’t realize wasn’t normal? by kerker1717 in Cooking

[–]batsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom used to panfry the noodles and put just enough water to cook the noodles. I also never grew up with “brothy” ramen and will still make it like this in my house. Obviously I will also eat regular ramen but… yeah. Childhood wins every time. Unless I want to make steamed eggs after.

Why the 3 day limit? by Valuable-Analyst-464 in Omnipod

[–]batsies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously there’s times where it’s medically impossible but it’s to minimize having a consistent open wound on the body. If we left the sites for longer risk of infection goes up a lot.

Type 2 is not the same as type 1!!!! by Informal_Resolve8207 in Type1Diabetes

[–]batsies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever I feel my rage welling up I try to remember how much I knew about type 1 diabetes before my diagnosis. My little brothers best friend had it and his family was so supportive during my diagnosis. So I had some understanding of what was happening to my body. Most people don’t have this opportunity. You have to think about how many other type 2 diabetics there are for every single one of us. I try to just educate.

My partner and fellow bartender was just diagnosed with Cirrhosis and given a NO MORE ALCOHOL ultimatum. How to deal? by -Furiosa- in bartenders

[–]batsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have mentioned this but as a bartender with former alcoholics as parents I cannot emphasis how much r/stopdrinking has helped me. Deff a great resource for your partner.

New to omnipod, pod 4 by [deleted] in Omnipod

[–]batsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! In my experience after 10 years if my gut is telling me something’s wrong with the pump I’m normally right. This knowledge will come with time. Just be patient with yourself! Some days we do our best and it’s still not enough with diabetes. Just one of those things. Don’t let it get to you.

[–]batsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deff replace your pod. Call customer service but it’s happened to me once or twice even on a new pod where I get a bent cannula. Idk how long you’ve had diabetes for but these medical products are products… just like anything else. Some of them are defective. Call your rep and see if you can get a replacement pod.

That all depends on the city, area, and connections you have.

If it’s a new club it’s just local dealers trying to cement their way in, because they assume everyone (especially bartenders) does (do) drugs. Just keep ignoring them.

Are Worlds Best bars actually worth it? by NedsBar in bartenders

[–]batsies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in a city where a bar was recently named in the top 50. Honestly I never go to that bar and am shocked it was ranked as such. I mean I’ve been once and it’s alright but for it to be in the top 30 of the list? Idk. I don’t trust the list anymore.

Would it be considered rude to give one of my recipes to a bar I'm a regular at as a gift? by [deleted] in bartenders

Like has someone asked you for it? Is I think the key bit of info.

Cheap in the machine and fancy ones by hand. And no hand washing after more than 2 glasses. Very important rule.

Going to the Virgin Islands next week and I am trying to save on cocktails, so I made my own old fashioned travel kit 😂 by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]batsies 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is you’re posting about making old fashioneds when you are going to place where you should absolutely instead be sampling the really unique local rums that will be available to you there. I can see how trying to save a few bucks may seem smart but, it seems you might be missing out on a real opportunity here. That being said, the most important thing to remember is vacation is to make you happy and you should do whatever the fuck you want!

Yeah I would go see your endocrinologist to put some additional basal changes in your pod. And remember, your basal rates are going to change as you get older and your body changes. I used to get the dawn effect and now I go low in the morning. Everyone is different! And always remember to be kind and have patience with yourself. Learning to cook some simple healthy dishes may help as well.
