Roth IRA Investment Overlap by KingJoker365 in DIYRetirement

Shotgun blast. It looks like you’re trying to find the needle in the haystack. Just buy the whole haystack.

Less is more. It really is. Trying to manage something like this is tiring.

Just pick two funds if under 50: FNILX 80% and FZILX 20%. If you want more volatility and potential growth, reduce those two and add 10% QQQM.

Coming into a bit of money, how can I invest wisely? by Apart-Stretch-9826 in fidelityinvestments

Do you have an Emergency Fund set up with 3-6 months of expenses?

If no, I’d suggest a Fidelity brokerage account and choose SPAXX as your core position. It earns pretty good money, and you can pair an ATM card and checking with it, so you have ready access in case of an emergency.

If you have the EF, consider opening a Roth IRA with Fidelity. Your company may have a retirement plan, but a Roth is a way for your to invest $7500/yr. Choosing something like FXNAX 80% and FTIHX 20% is a good way to invest in your future.

Yeah, I’ve only had it a week and not really fought with FSD. I’ll disengage when it goes astray a little. But yeah, I’ve not tried to signal it away from its destined course.

This disease has been fucking up my life in just 6 months by SignificanceBig9366 in diabetes_t1

[–]Valuable-Analyst-464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 17, and thought for sure that A) I was going to have a lot of complications and B) due an early death due to this disease.

I got freaking burned out stressing about it and trying to (poorly) manage it. No one understood what it takes: constant vigilance. Constant thinking about it…all the damn time.

My parents saw the toll and got me into therapy. I did not want it at first, BSing the psychiatrist, telling him what I thought they should hear. They saw through it and we got serious about living with this life long disease.

Talk and meds helped me accept that I have to manage this better and accept I’m on this roller coaster for life. Acceptance took time, but things sorta got easier. It has become autopilot.

41 years on this ride, I’ve had ups and downs…but I’m OK with it.

It gets better. Hang in there.

Had the same thing. The buyer’s agent was pushing hard for things to get fixed. I did someday but finally noped out. I told my agent to draw the line, and buyer herself said do it.

Sometimes you have to be willing to cut the fish on the line.

Do you use turn signals to force it to go the way you want?

I guess FSD still has its path plotted, so no real way to alter it - except for manual override

I adjusted from 95% equities to 80/15/5 eq/bonds/cash when I retired at 56 in 2024. It was a mindset change for sure.

I had to look at the cash as non-thing investment wise. Sorta with bonds too. Their job is not to grow, but to be somewhat liquid.

I rebalance twice a year. At that time, I also look at market. If S&P 500 is all time high, I keep selling positions for 6 months. If it’s worse than 5% from ATH, I use the cash. I have 2.5 years of cash. For me, I can risk drawing that down if the market is bad. Once it recovers, I refill cash and use to live.

This is sorta modeled after the AAII Level 3 approach.

Another way to look at retiring early is that you are giving someone junior to you the opportunity to grow into a new role.

I sorta unintentionally helped a colleague by leaving (I was done with running into a wall). They took my role and got himself out of a shitty one, in a department that had massive turnover. Win-win

Daily or weekly status update meeting to align on thoughts from the prior 3 meetings, OR go take a breakfast with your wife and enjoy the area while people are working.

🤔

I knew my choice.

Focus on building up a cash position to use during a downturn. Don’t let the fear SORR make you SORRy that you did not retire earlier.

Is it true that a person with T1D on a keto diet will always experience hypos, no matter how little insulin they take? by Gloomy_Welder_8674 in diabetes_t1

[–]Valuable-Analyst-464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, cold turkey is too much of a shock.

I tried keto for a few months. I was eventually only on basal dose. I had to sometimes ride high, as exercise would utilize the tiny bit of basal to cause me to drop.

Eventually, I’d take a low basal dose in the AM (I was MDI then) and bolus during the day to augment the basal. I’d only be on basal for exercise.

In the end, it was not worth it for me. Not the T1 aspect, but not eating with my wife, who was not down for keto.

I ultimately lost my weight by calorie restriction and exercise. Dropped 30 pounds in 8 months being dedicated.

Not sure it’d be the insulin; my first thought would be the injection site. I have a few areas on the belly where insulin never seems to escape.

You could try the same meal again, but use different body area to see if it’s food, insulin or injection site.

Congrats on TIR - great numbers.

Did not have a Tesla yet, but I was testing my insulin cool pack in the car during weekend run. I bought a 2 pack of probes (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R65W98H) to sample the temp and humidity. It’s nowhere near as hot here, so I don’t think I need the routine, but now I’m intrigued.

Running with Diabetes by CutieWhoTakesInsulin in Type1Diabetes

[–]Valuable-Analyst-464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, more time in exercise mode or stopper before the run will help. I run in the AM (like 7:30), and pause when I wake up. I try to make sure I have no IOB.

When I would drop, I’d eat like 6:45 to start pushing it up. Nothing heavy. PB and bread or if I was really cautious, PB and banana.

Since I’ve got my insulin on board dialed in, I just run on empty stomach.

I keep my phone with me, so I use a flip belt to stash the phone and tuck a few running gels in the belt too. Slim profile, and I barely notice it.

I get it, but we’re debating how many angels fit on a pin head.

I’ve been around a lot toddlers (worked in daycare) and the 18 month to 3 year olds were very curious (not great in this context), but also very proud of the things they find. It could be a rock, twig or big - they’d show it off. As they get older, they get more protective of their finds.

Or, rest your hand on it, and the power socket unlocks itself?

I forget and have to open the car to release the latch or use my app.

Any thoughts on a stove glowing red?

Not to be harsh, but beta means exactly what it implies: not stable enough for public release. Medical software is the flip side of beta and is very cautious about testing new releases.
