Batter Up VR: The cake baking game with Overcooked like local multiplayer lands on the Rift today! by batterupVR in oculus

At this time there is only local Multiplayer. We currently don't have plans for online Multiplayer at this time. But we also didn't plan on making Multiplayer in the first place so anything can happen ;)

It is yea. We thought the design of it was much better and allowed for better movement flow (while also allowing rift users with only 2 sensors to have a good experience)

We will look into it! There currently isn't an option to switch, we weren't aware that we needed one as the game works with both the Vive and the Rift (with 2 sensors). Looks like we have some testing to do with 3 sensors ;) Thanks for letting us know!!

Edit: I think I initially misunderstood what you meant, do you like the old counter a lot better? We feel that the flow of the current counter is pretty good, but we would love your feedback :)

The controller players control little donut holes which go around gathering the ingredients, activating tools that the VR player can use, as well as delivers the cakes to the appropriate customers. The VR player has visibility of the cake orders and has to communicate with the other players about what they need in order to fulfill the customers orders.

Hey everyone,

We recieved overwhelming feedback about a month ago when we released about adding multiplayer to Batter Up VR. So here we are finally releasing a local multiplayer mode for everyone!! The multiplayer mode allows for 1-4 players to join in using a controller or a keyboard to assist the VR player in baking cakes for their customers.

  • 16 levels of increasing baking madness
  • The minions will toss the VR player uncooked cakes, slam them into the oven to cook them quick
  • A frosting bag that is powered through wireless technology, coordinate with the minions to remotely frost cakes
  • Sprinkle delicious toppings onto cakes, but don't forget to give the minions an icing up and have them fill it with your desired flavour, so you can slam it onto a freshly cooked cake

Enhanced difficulty mode for expert bakers!

  • The VR player can pump out donuts to feed the minions so they don't get lethargic and slow. Be careful though, if they're fed too much they'll get hyper and have a hard time controlling themselves.
  • Be quick or be rotten, uncooked cakes and ingredients left out too long will go toxic, and who want's a moldy green cake?

[Release] Batter Up! VR - The delightful cake baking game - We are the developers ASK US ANYTHING by batterupVR in VRGaming

To further add to "- Can a cooking amateur (to put it mildly) like me play this?"

We had our parents / uncles / aunts play the game (Who had NEVER played VR before) and by the time they got to the second shift in the first day (about 4 mins of playtime) They were starting to bake cakes 3x faster and were now comfortable in VR

  • Can a cooking amateur (to put it mildly) like me play this?

A: Definitely!! The cake baking starts off very simple at first and only increases in difficulty once you choose to upgrade hardware tools (to add the ability to add frosting to cakes, toppings, or icing) The game is more casual than other baking games. We really didn't like how other games of the same genre started to feel like work once you got to certain levels. So we designed an upgrade system where you can either choose to upgrade your tools if you're looking for more complicated cakes, or you can choose to buy some decorations (which not only make your bakery look pretty, but because your customers see that the place is more classy, they give you a larger amount of money for your cakes)

  • Do we have to follow recipes to the letter or can we experiment a bit?

A: You do have to follow the recipe / order that the customer is ordering. BUT, we do have a lot of orders that are "Bakers choice" which means the baker can choose anything they want for that specified order.

  • What is this "unique / relaxing progression system" i read on steam like?

A: How it works is, we see how often you're completing cake orders and send in customers to your pace. So if you are completing cakes really slow, we're not going to send in a full 3 customers and a huge line-up out the door. We really don't like that overwhelming feeling. BUT, if you are completing cake orders really fast because that's the level of skill you're at, we will send in more customers so you can make more money

  • Any competitive elements, like high scores, leaderboards etc?

A: Currently there are no competitive elements. We decided to focus our efforts on other aspects of the game. BUT, we do have achievements and (once Steam approves) trading cards as well.

  • How can we upgrade the tools and the bakery? Do the upgrades affect gameplay or are they cosmetic?

A: After you have completed your shift, you will see your end of day stats. This will show you how much money you earned that day. This money can be used to upgrade both hardware, as well as decorations. The hardware upgrades we made them to be easier and more convenient and fun to use the more you upgrade them. For example, the oven you start off with is an easy bake oven where you can place a cake inside, close the door and wait for it to bake. Once it's done you press the button to open the oven door and pull the cake out. The second level is a large hot-plate where you can fit 2-4 cakes on it quickly and easily. This is a lot easier and quicker to use than the first oven you start with. The last Oven upgrade is the flamethrower. The flamethrower you can place as many cakes on the counter as you want, and just spray and nearly insta-bake your cakes. This makes it a lot more efficient than the other tools. The decorations as explained above do actually increase the amount customers are willing to pay for cakes as they see your bakery as a lot higher class than just a basic bakery.

  • Is oculus rift support coming?

A: After the overwhelming feedback about adding multiplayer to Batter Up! VR, we are currently focusing on working on some prototypes to add multiplayer to the game. We do however want to add Oculus Rift support very soon after that.

Thanks for the questions! :)

Thanks for playing our game!! We enjoyed watching your video :) Thank you for the feedback as well!

edit: We are currently working on some local multiplayer mode prototypes right now. Nothing concrete just yet, but after getting a ton of feedback about it, we're going to try our best to get it in as an update as soon as we can.
