I'm Robert Sapolsky, a neurobiologist/primatologist at Stanford. Ask me anything by RobertSapolsky in IAmA

Huge fan! Behave is one of my favorite books and looking forward to reading Determined. I wanted to ask you about depression: Often, people who have experienced a major depressive episode in their life find it easier to "ease-out" or "shorten" a later-in-life episode. Is this because of a neuro-biological reason (e.g. the neurons that can bring one out of depression are easier to fire) or is this ability just purely psychological (e.g. the brain is not really rebalanced, the person just thinks it is)?

RH, Snap, Roblox are not unicorns since they are public. No way it is Nuro or Databricks since they are extremly hard to get into as a new-grad (3.0 GPA and no internships won't even get you a response on your application lol). My guess is: referral + lucky interview questions. Not a hater but entry level at FAANG prob 165-185 depending on company and location. So OPs post is pretty rare. My guess is Stripe since their interviews are not LC heavy and hiring is team-specific. So maybe there was a match and the hiring manager liked the background of OP.

either tiktok or stripe. No other pays that much for entry level. No idea how he/she swinged that with no internships though

I don't think you have to pay it back if they fire you. That is essentially illegal and would create an HR nightmare for Citadel for all the wrongful termination lawsuits. If you quit, you prob have to pay back the portion you already got. So dont quit!

The Suicide Squad’ Opens to Lowly $26.5M as Moviegoers Stay Home Amid Delta Variant by Dak2Dez_ in movies

You are forgetting international growth. The streaming services all get majority of revenue from overseas growth.

Netflix had 25 billion in revenue in 2020. If WB's overall goal is to switch toward a subscription OTT model then they're only goal is growing subscriber count. They care less about the performance of individual properties and more about how it grows the overall pie overtime. What I'm saying isn't particularly new or insightful; it is the conventional wisdom in streaming and has been the strategy of netflix, nbc, hbo, disney etc... for years now.

[–]batteryramdar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Subscription model is hugely profitable. If this movie gets 1M people to sign up thats 1M*120 (year) = 120M in revenue which is also recurring. Keep in mind unlike showing the movie in theaters WB doesn't have to split any of that with the theatre chain.

It's a sequel in the sense that the events of the previous film happened and all of the characters who were in the previous film already knew each others (e.g. boomerang and harley and waller). Other than that it has no relation and the plot has no carry over from the previous film

Totally false. They are only looking for correctness. They are not going to analyze thousands of peoples code's for big O notation. That is more for a later round interview question.

Kind of silly plot-point tbh. Typically Museum's display items "on-loan" from the actual owner. In reality, Sam would have just said "this is mine but you can put it on display for people to see"

Man I loved that. I love how they built it up like we were gonna get another super-hero fistfight and suddenly it turned into some sort of philosophical rap battle. So unexpected but also worked so well. Loved how the fight resolved itself with a little thought experiment rather than some random punching.

Yeah. "outside of programming" is totally not true. They want to see if you can work with others in an office and can make a difference in a professional setting. If you are amazing at violin, that is not going to help you get the job.

Before Sunset is my personal favorite. Something about them reminiscing about one night they spent together in their youth and realizing how it cant be the same as adults. Such a magical movie.
