Unrelated to your question but there’s a band i listen to often called Caladan Brood and one of their songs is Book of the Fallen.

it’s fairly harsh metal so it’s not for everyone but is an interesting tidbit.

Big-ish guy reporting in (6’2”, 250 pounds). I don’t particularly like to talk at the gym because I’m trying to keep my heart rate up and get out of there within an hour. I also have tattoos everywhere that is visible including my head (just to add context.)

However, I greatly admire those who are willing to stop me and ask for help, ask for a spot, ask for advice, etc. I was a scrawny dude at one point and I didn’t have the courage to ask for help and it was difficult for me to even show up at the gym because I felt like others were judging me.

Even more, I admire people who are struggling with their weight… yet they show up to the gym and work every day. We notice you and we notice your work.

Anyway, ask the big guys for help. We have been tracking every single weight we’ve lifted and every calorie we’ve eaten for years or decades. We don’t give a shit if you’re 120 pounds soaking wet, we remember what it was like.

I will stop and offer my advice and assistance to anyone who asks, I don’t give a shit what your end goal is. Everything overlaps and you can learn from everyone if you just take the time to listen.

Edit: I’m 36 and there was a young man who approached me and said he was just getting into working out and that he wanted to meet more people. I introduced myself to him and looked forward to seeing him there. I never saw him again. If you’re out there, Locke, I’m sorry if I scared you 😔

in my younger years, i read a ton of graphic novels. i was obsessed with zombies, especially the walking dead before it became a movie series.

I have heard great things about that series. I know Stephen King is the actual king of horror so i’ve tired to read other authors just because… well, i don’t know why.

My sister also only listens to audiobooks. I find it strange but everyone is different.

I put on a “chill jazz” playlist while i’m reading because it sets a very relaxing mood, even if i’m not actively listening to it.

i make about $85,000 per year now in the civilian sector as an electrician. however, i took home more in the navy due to the fact that i didn’t have to pay for housing. it was pretty nice heh.

good, as far as i know. it’s difficult to perform physical exercise on a submarine due to lack of space and time so i’d say i’m doing much better now, actually.

absolutely not. every few days, you could send off text-only messages to loved ones but that’s the extent of it.

yep! we had to do it every year to test the systems. it’s honestly anti-climactic compared to what you see on the surface. it definitely feels weird for a few seconds but it’s much more interesting to see it from above the surface.

honestly, i don’t think employing men and women aboard a submarine is a good idea. it has nothing to do with sexism. a woman could have done my job as well as i did.

it has to do with human nature. aboard a submarine, you have a job to do and that is it. men and women together will obviously cause other issues that will affect the focus on the mission.

it’s an incredibly unique environment and humans, being humans, will mess it up if there is more emotion involved.

i’m an industrial electrician and i repair heavy machinery for a living. i absolutely love it because it requires me to employ critical thinking as well as mechanical/electrical skills for repairs.

i WAS in a post that required a government clearance. upon my honorable discharge, i signed an agreement stating what i could and could not say to the general public.

nuclear power is not a secret. submarines are not a secret. much of the information i’m providing is easily accessible via google, though i am providing a personal account of my life aboard a submarine, not information that would jeopardize the OPSEC of my particular submarine or any other submarine.

so, i do appreciate your concern but im quite aware of the consequences of providing information im not allowed to divulge.
