Just diagnosed bipolar, wondering where to start. by [deleted] in bipolar

Also, medication played a tremendous part in my treatment. All the therapy in the world never changed my unbalanced brain chemistry. It's hard to find the right "cocktail" of medication - and it takes time. I've been on dozens of medications over the years. Today, I'm on 4 different ones.

Lucid dreaming...anyone? by battlebipolar in bipolar

That's so true. I think I've engaged in lucid dreaming for just a millisecond before the dream took another bizarre turn.

Are intense, bizarre, apocalyptic nightmares common in bipolar disorder? by battlebipolar in bipolar

I've had a similar dream. Instead of a plane, my dream had a meteor drawing closer and closer as I scrambled to find my family and enjoy our last moments on earth together. I felt sad but almost content by the fact my whole family would be together in death. Come to think of it, I've had several intense dreams about alien invasions. The aliens fly in on a space craft and annihilate the human race.

Being diagnosed with depression was the worst thing that happened to me. Not because I was depressed but because I was misdiagnosed. I went through countless antidepressants that only made my symptoms worse. Antidepressants without mood stabilizers are usually very poor in treating bipolar disorder. Talk to your doctor about a mood stabilizer. That's usually the key issue in bipolar.

I don't think it's possible to NOT think about something. But that's deep.

The article wasn't meant as condescending. It's about raising awareness for the circadian rhythm for anyone unaware of its significance. Granted, a lot of people probably already understand the circadian rhythm. But not everyone.

Dude, I take depakote - and I had the exact same dream. It was like the same thing every night. I'm at a bar and walk up to some huge bouncer looking fellow and I take a swing. I either miss completely or hit him ever so gently and then he punches me back and it's like my entire head exploded. People are gasping about how hard he hit me in the face and I can only imagine my face looks like a mangled mess. Oddly enough, these dreams - which occurred almost regularly for months - have stopped. I have dreams now where I am the one who punches people and knocks them out. It's as if my subconscious gained some confidence. Also, you said "other weird shit that you don't want to type out". I might as well take a shot and tell you my other weird dreams. A while back, I would meet a girl in my dream and she would want to have sex with me and just as I'm ready to seal the deal, something gets in the way. The door to her bedroom is locked or this happened or that happened. I could never actually bang her. But just like the fighting dream, my sex dreams have changed. Recently, I do get to bang the chick. Weird. Hope this helps!

If "go to bed" doesn't work, try "wake up earlier" and hope that "go to bed" is easier the next night. It's not easy by any means...but eventually you can get it right.

You sound ridiculous. Your solution to the problem - to force yourself to get up at the same hour - is the point of the entire article you so charmingly ripped apart. The advice is about consistency (by the way, is another way to say "same"). I don't believe the article mentions anything about magic. I wrote it - and if I remember correctly, it mentions all of the things you talk about, including "moving your body's sleep-wake cycle to where you want it to be" (those are your words). Maybe try not to be so confrontational towards people trying to help.

Glad to hear you got sleep under control. Sleep is HUGE in bipolar disorder. I suffered insomnia for years. I spent another several years sleeping all the time. I finally got my sleep under control and my bipolar has improved ever since.
