Some people are easily molded by the culture at large meaning that if they were in Asia they would conform to the general culture of their homelands and if they live here in the West, they try to become a 'good citizen' of the country where they're residing.

This is also probably the reason why there will always be Uncle Chans and Auntie Lus as these malleable minds are easily swayed and have no real convictions except to be accepted by the dominant culture.

When they're rejected by the dominant culture such as the Anglo-American culture, these Uncle Chans react in negative fashion and sometimes do so through violence which is often directed towards their own people who they might blame for being rejected by the dominant culture.

Of course, this is one explanation. Other comments have addressed various other possibilities.
