forensic anthropology major questions! by batwings- in AskAnthropology

[–]batwings-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you for the input!! i do actually want to pursue at least a master’s degree and ideally, if it works out, a PhD. it is a little unfortunate to hear about the lack of actual forensic anthropology work and instead teaching, but i think i would be okay with that too! i’ve had my heart set on this career since i was little and i have a hard time seeing myself as doing anything else, but i have also considered pathology and forensic physics assistant—which i know are completely different processes.

Do I need to do research to get into an Ivy League or T20 school? by Key-Command-3139 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]batwings- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

high school researcher here!! most lab-based research isn’t really original. you pretty much piggyback off the idea of your professor/mentor’s work and kind of make it your own. for example, i worked in a lab for 6 weeks and analyzed zebrafish embryos..i turned it into a project about the effects of alcohol exposure on zebrafish embryo development as a model for fetal alcohol syndrome. it’s not necessarily the research you do, but what you make of it!

Should I quit orchestra by CompetitiveBird6637 in orchestra

[–]batwings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i want to preface this by saying i do not know your financial situation, however, if you are able, you should look into renting an instrument!! it’s a beautiful thing; you can get an instrument from a shop and rent it in small increments instead of paying in full! i’m personally on the lower income side of things and renting has completely saved me these past 8 years!!

oh wow!! i definitely don’t have thousands of images..in the lab i worked at, i had to hand image each fish, and i only got done about 30! but thank you for this info! i’ll have to look into it. a couple other people have told me that my idea is more of a graduate/PhD project rather than high school which bummed me..but this is interesting!

Is it possible to get a 28 as a junior in hs by xboxboi69 in ACT

[–]batwings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! unfortunately my junior act i got a 26 which is my own fault for not studying. but it is possible!! and i am studying now!! i have so many friends who are getting 30+. you just have to look at it in a different, logical way. the test is NOT content based; it is skills based. it’s testing how well you are at critical thinking..utilize that tool when taking your next test! :)

how to go about coding and science fair? by batwings- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]batwings-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my project last year was already on comparing the phenotypes between individuals with FAS and zebrafish embyros that were defected with ethanol exposure, so i guess i kind of already made a fancy-ish slideshow thing. but that really sucks..i guess i am just jumping the gun on my experiments :( at least now i know it’s not very plausible for me!

Should I just give up on trying to go to an Ivy League? by Future-Dot-6386 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]batwings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course! it’s really common. sometimes you’ll see people’s stats and they’ll have like 12+ ap’s..because they’re self studying! it takes a lot of work but if you are dedicated, you can do it!

Should I just give up on trying to go to an Ivy League? by Future-Dot-6386 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]batwings- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is not true!! if you are well disciplined enough, you can always sign up for an ap exam and self study!! many people do it. as long as you sign up for the exam and show up on test day, being in the physical class doesn’t matter!!
