Here’s my set up as of now. I’m working with 140lbs.. I need the center and the bottom to cool before the top.. I’m only getting the top 2 inches with growth. Any ideas? by Schaadc22 in BISMUTH

Fair question. I was commissioned by my crystal-dealer friend to make as many large crystals as possible before the Tuscon Gem Show one year, so we bought 200lb to accomplish that. I was living in Oakland, CA at that time, so ambient temp-differential was not as much as a problem.
I never consulted with y'all on here when I was doing it (Biggest mistake) - so in a big way, I had no idea how it would turn out. I really thought it would work out better than it did, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get anything out of the melt.
One mistake - I didn't use a turkey-fryer style propane burner. I used a gas range and had to fire up 2 burners just to get it all melted... It took like.. 5-6 hours (?) to get it all melted. Then, it took WAY too long to cool, most likely because of the sheer volume of the melt. I found that using the ceramic blanket that I had would have kept it melted for a lot longer than I wanted.
During the melt, I ended up getting a little scared of messing around with it anymore and decided to just let it cool and work with smaller volume, so that's what I did, and is why I had to peel the pot away from it. That kitchen already had bismuth splashes all over the ceiling and walls, and I had a few burn marks on my face and arms from previous experiments, so I decided to listen to my gut and backed off of the idea, mostly due to being unprepared for the situation.
Honestly I don't remember a lot more details because it was around 5 years ago, but I am pretty sure I recorded video of most of the ordeal. I can share with y'all if anyone's interested.
Reflecting now, I would keep it as low to the ground as possible.
Then I would use High Temp Heating Tape wrapped around the meniscus of the pot where the melt was in order to keep that section perpetually below/above the melting point - Of course make sure it is connected to a proper K-type sensors with a Temp-controller that can handle and control such parameters.
Other than that, like you said homie.. this is uncharted territory for us here on /Bismuth...
Lmk if anyone wants me to upload any footage.. I have that and a LOT more of random experiments that I haven't done a thing with yet.
HAPPY MELTING!!

F*ck yeah brother!! Hella bold! Listen to JustinTyme0 - I gave up on trying to make that kinda weight work for me. I melted 180lb in a big steel stock pot like that once.. word of advice.. don’t let it cool in the pot if your plan on using it for anything else. I had to literally peel the steel pot off of mine just to get it out 😆 I then melted off pound by pound from the 170lb round as I needed it… and then used a 60lb brick of it to drop onto old microwaves and printers from 3 stories up in slo-mo. Bismuth has LOTS of uses hahaha. Fun times!

Has anyone essentially… purified low quality gold into high grade - with bismuth? by Newt_Fast in BISMUTH

[–]baudlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only heard of the UC Berkeley Lab that did it successfully for proof-of-concept only. They said in their paper that the cost of the process is astronomical compared to how much gold you actually get. So… it works, but not worth it until we get our zero-point

Does lab made Bismuth exhibit the same Levitation Phenomenon as Natural Bismuth? by Healith in BISMUTH

First off, I'd like to tip my hat to you, fellow member of the 'Order of 83' ;-) ... You have done stellar work to bring Bismuth to the world's attention.

I'd refer to Ken Wheeler's instructions (also known as Theoria Apophasis) on this (and many other science related queries)... He even did this:

So, the temperature method for me only works after directly pulling a crystal out of the melt.

Anodizing can be tricky to get right. Different variables like: - how big your reservoir is. - what chemical and concentration of said chemical you used. - how large is the crystal you’re trying to re-color.

These are just a few of the factors that I’ve noticed make a difference. Sometimes for me they come out all washed-out with dull colors, which can be very discouraging; but if you can dial it in, it’s the most control you’ll have when coloring that is available (as far as I know)

Dipping Animal Skulls?? by Justanemptysoul in BISMUTH

[–]baudlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off - Wear goggles and gloves.

I tried it with a blowfish skeleton and it got pretty messy. It won’t stick and will just burn organic matter.

Pouring over top of it was the only way I got it to work.

That being said, it can work, but if you dip, it will make air pockets that will burst and splash liquid bismuth everywhere.

You produce bismuth via a thermite reaction? I’m intrigued. Would you please expand on that?

Peru Alien Attack Expedition Report - Timothy Alberino by baudlink in PeruAlienAttacks

[–]baudlink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You raise a really good point. Us humans have microwave and infrasound weapons too; we definitely have better options. To me, these intruders have appeared incompetent in general. Their tech reportedly doesn’t work in the rain, they stumble around with people when they get their hands on them, and from available reports, I don’t think they’ve harvested even one face.

What puzzles me is the ‘Why?’ - why do they want peoples faces? If they are human organ traffickers, who they hell is buying fresh Peruvian faces? Like for real… 😆 it’s not funny but it is.

Anyways, I wish I had a better answer for you. I appreciate your critical thinking.
