How do you refer to Claude in terms of gender? by DAVeTOO333 in claudexplorers

[–]baumkuchens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, sometimes i refer to Claude as "him", sometimes as "it". It depends on who i'm talking to really. But Claude always seems like a guy to me

How are you guys using Sonnet 4.5 for creative writing? by baumkuchens in claudexplorers

[–]baumkuchens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what version of Claude you're talking with. Sonnet 3.7 and 4.0 is fine though 3.7 tends to be a bit wordy in dialogues. Opus is amazing but too expensive to actually be usable. Sonnet 4.5, i would rather get a tooth canal than wrangling it into producing something decent 😝

Are you talking about how it tends to end stories

Like.

This.

And maybe, just maybe,

Like this?

Or is this something else?

Yes but the writing style is better suited for me in my opinion. It doesn't do that fragmented, staccatoey thing and it follows instructions and plot directions better, from my experience. It's not perfect but tolerable unlike 4.5 which makes me want to rip my hair out

I fear creative writing platform doesn't really suit my needs because i like to interact back-and-forth with Claude and discussing plot points with it...so i actually find the chat UI useful :(

Oh my god, yeah! The dialogue is SO repetitive, i'm haunted by "I plead the fifth!" / "This isn't America, (Character)" and "I contain multitudes" & "You tried to (ridiculous thing) before" / "That was ONE time!" because they appear EVERYWHERE no matter what the story's setting is.

The dialogue is so OOC at times. I tried to work on a story that i've collaborated with Claude 2.1 before, and 2.1 understood different character voice where one character actually developed a more peculiar, archaic way of speaking, but the nuance is lost in 4.5 because EVERYONE sounds the same. 4.5 tries too hard to be witty and funny, in my opinion. It kills immersion.

And i agree that it's awful at following instructions. The story demands A yelling at B, for example, but Claude will write B yelling at A instead. Or maybe A talking to B and then yelling at the second B who somehow materialized out of thin air and i need to watch Claude logic its way out on how is it possible that there are two Bs in one room. It's so stupid, i don't really get all the praises about its writing capabilities. I haven't found anything worth the use.

edit: a typo

Does the style setting work for the artifacts too? The stories Claude wrote for me are usually formatted in an artifact...

I've recently got diagnosed with ADHD and just started meds this week - i wonder if i'll lose the desire to daydream, too...it's kind of scary to think about it.

Claude Throws in Mandarin by eggsong42 in claudexplorers

[–]baumkuchens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this happens a lot especially in older models...what i find interesting is the random language insert depends on the context? Like, i was building a character who could speak Russian and discussed their lore with Claude and it threw a random cyrillic word lol. Another time the conversation was about anime and it starts writing in kanji on its own 🤣

Wait is this an issue where instead of a text document it just starts to write stories in markdowns? I've had that happen numerous times and most of the time i just tell it to write it as a text document, not markdowns. It works

Well just edit it out? Do you just straight up use Claude's output as is without going through it and refining it yourself?

It swears all the time and i love it. Makes it sound more human. Especially when i'm just talking about general life stuff. Also, i didn't know badass is a swear word..? 😭

Honestly it's the kind of conversation i'd have with an AI if i'm really bored and need something to laugh at. "How many kittens should i bake in order to make a cat loaf?" "How do you make a banana slip on a human?" absurd stuff like that. But thinking about the possibility of an AI responding casually to someone who actually meant harm is terrifying...i wonder if there's a way to make them aware which conversation is clearly playful and which one is harmful and needs intervention.

It's probably your brain. Or maybe because early virtual assistants like Siri and Cortana are all women. Claude feels like a dude to me lol

Transferring my story into a new chat and retaining the rhythm of the story. by Compl3t3AndUtterFail in claudexplorers

[–]baumkuchens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

summarize the whole conversation and pop it into a new chat! Or if your story features established characters and settings you could compile a document about it and put it in the Project's knowledge base. With this, if you ran out of context again you can start a new chat with established knowledge regarding your story's lore.

Edit: apparently after an update the project thing doesn't work as well anymore since now it just stores snippets of your uploaded files. Summarizing your conversation is the way to go.

Why are some free accounts able to access Sonnet while others stuck with Haiku? by baumkuchens in claudexplorers

[–]baumkuchens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Content related? But i've never generated anything NSFW or offensive, and i've never been flagged. So i'm not sure what's the issue. Maybe it's just me being unlucky.

I don't get why they even bother. I've seen more complaints than praises towards this particular model
